Uttar Pradesh Announces Annual Home Exam Schedule for Government School Students

The Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Directorate has officially declared the schedule for the annual home examinations for students enrolled in classes 1 through 8 at all government and government-aided schools across the state. The exams are set to take place from March 16 to March 20, 2024, with specific timings and formats tailored to different grade levels.

Exam Formats and Weightage for Lower Classes

Basic Education Director Pratap Singh Baghel outlined the examination structure, emphasizing a balanced approach for younger students. For class 1 pupils, the assessment will be conducted solely through oral exams. Students in classes 2 to 5 will face a combination of oral and written tests.

In classes 2 and 3, the written and oral components will carry equal weightage, each accounting for 50% of the total marks. For classes 4 and 5, the written exam will constitute 70% of the marks, while the oral exam will make up the remaining 30%.

Exam Timings and Upper Class Assessments

The examinations will be held in two sessions daily: from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM and from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM. Students in classes 6 to 8 will undergo only written exams, with no oral component required.

All annual exams will be worth 50 marks and will include a variety of question types: multiple-choice questions (10 marks), very short answer questions (10 marks), short answer questions (20 marks), and long-answer questions (10 marks).

Word Limit Specifications for Different Grades

The directorate has specified precise word limits for answer responses based on class levels:

  • For classes 2 and 3: Very short questions must be answered in one word, short questions in 10 words, and long questions in 20 words.
  • For classes 4 and 5: Very short questions require one-word answers, short questions 25 words, and long questions 40 words.
  • For classes 6 to 8: Very short questions need one-word responses, short questions 35 words, and long questions 75 words.

Question Paper Preparation and Result Declaration

Director Baghel has instructed the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) to prepare the question papers following the standards and patterns used by private schools, ensuring quality and consistency. The evaluation process will be completed promptly, with report cards scheduled for distribution on March 30, 2024.

This initiative aims to standardize assessment practices across Uttar Pradesh's government education system, providing a structured evaluation framework for millions of students during the academic year-end period.
