Uttar Pradesh Officials Stress Collaboration for Girls' Education Reform

Lucknow: Senior education officials in Uttar Pradesh have emphasized the critical importance of strengthening foundational learning to enhance educational outcomes across the state. Speaking at a significant dialogue on girls' education, they called for robust collaborations between government agencies, industry bodies, and civil society organizations to drive sustainable impact within the education ecosystem.

Focus on Long-Term Learning Systems

Additional Chief Secretary for Basic and Secondary Education, Partha Sarathi Sen Sharma, highlighted the necessity of shifting focus toward long-term learning systems rather than concentrating solely on current classroom students. He made these remarks while addressing a gathering organized by Lucknow Bioscope and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) at Gomti Nagar on Sunday.

"Large numbers of girls who have dropped out in the past 5-15 years need targeted programmes and schemes to help them resume education and build livelihoods," Sharma stated, underscoring the urgency of addressing historical dropout rates through specialized interventions.

Addressing Dropout Challenges

Ramon Magsaysay awardee Safeena Husain pointed out that the lack of basic facilities, including proper seating arrangements and safe school environments, remains a major reason behind high dropout rates in several regions. Despite acknowledging India's significant progress in education over the past decade, Husain stressed that considerable awareness efforts are still required.

"A lot of awareness needs to be created because there are villages where girls do not go to school at all," she noted, emphasizing that education continues to be the most effective tool for social mobility and economic progress for girls.

Industry and Civil Society Perspectives

Vice-Chairman of CII Uttar Pradesh, Abhishek Saraff, reinforced the centrality of advancing girls' education to workforce strength, social mobility, and long-term economic resilience. He highlighted the alignment of leaders from government, industry, and civil society in pursuing sustained educational reforms.

Chair of Yi Lucknow, Sankalp Rastogi, added that Young Indians (Yi) is actively contributing to improved learning environments through impactful projects. These initiatives focus on value-based engagement and holistic development, further supporting the broader goals of educational enhancement in the state.

The collective insights from this dialogue underscore a unified approach toward tackling educational disparities and fostering an inclusive learning environment for all students in Uttar Pradesh.
