JPSC Unveils 103 Vacancies for Jharkhand State Civil Services Competition 2025

The Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) has officially announced a significant recruitment drive, opening 103 vacancies for the highly anticipated Jharkhand State Civil Services Competition 2025. In a notification released late on Thursday, the commission detailed that the application process will be conducted entirely online, with the window opening on January 31 and closing on February 14, 2025. Following the application phase, the preliminary examination is tentatively scheduled to be held on March 8, 2025, marking a crucial step for aspirants aiming to join the state's administrative machinery.

Detailed Breakdown of Available Positions

The 103 vacancies encompass a diverse range of prestigious posts within the Jharkhand government. The commission has specified the following distribution:

  • Deputy Collectors: 28 positions
  • Deputy Superintendents of Police: 42 positions
  • Deputy Commandants: 2 positions
  • Probationary Officers: 4 positions
  • Assistant Directors (Women, Child Development and Social Security Department): 3 positions
  • Assistant Registrars (Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Cooperative Department): 2 positions
  • Assistant Town Commissioners/Executive Officers and Special Officers: 10 positions
  • Jail Superintendents: 2 positions
  • Assistant Directors-cum-District Public Relation Officers: 10 positions

Reservation Policy and Age Criteria

In line with the state's commitment to inclusive representation, out of the total 103 seats, a substantial 53 positions are reserved for various categories. This includes reservations for Scheduled Tribes (STs), Scheduled Castes (SCs), Extremely Backward Castes (EBC), Backward Castes (BC), women, as well as persons with disabilities such as the blind, deaf, and those with walking disabilities.

The commission has also outlined the age criteria for candidates, with the cut-off date for determining age set as August 1, 2026. The maximum age limits are as follows:

  • General Category: 35 years
  • Extremely Backward Castes (EBC): 37 years
  • Women: 38 years
  • Scheduled Tribes/Scheduled Castes (ST/SC): 40 years

Additionally, there are relaxations provided: a 10-year relaxation for persons with physical disabilities and a 5-year relaxation for ex-servicemen, ensuring broader participation.

Aspirants Raise Concerns Over Cut-off Date

However, the announcement has not been without controversy. On Friday, a group of aspirants submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister’s office and Rajya Sabha MP Mahua Majhi, expressing their dissatisfaction with the designated cut-off date. The aspirants are advocating for the cut-off date to be set as 2018, arguing that in the previous civil services examination, the cut-off date was August 1, 2017. They highlighted that the advertisement for that examination was issued in 2023, with results declared in July of the previous year, suggesting a need for consistency and fairness in the timeline.

When questioned about this demand, a JPSC official clarified, “The decision related to the cut-off date is taken by the state personnel department.” This statement underscores that the commission operates within the framework set by higher administrative authorities, and any changes to the age criteria would require deliberation at the state level.

This recruitment drive represents a significant opportunity for thousands of aspirants across Jharkhand and beyond, aiming to secure coveted positions in the state's civil services. With the application window approaching, candidates are advised to prepare diligently and stay updated on any further announcements from the JPSC regarding the examination process and eligibility criteria.
