BAMU Vice-Chancellor Vijay Fulari Celebrates Two-Year Milestone with Major Reforms
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar witnessed a significant academic milestone this Saturday as Dr. Vijay Fulari, the esteemed vice-chancellor of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (BAMU), completed two years in office. Reflecting on his tenure, Fulari has reaffirmed his steadfast dedication to fostering academic and administrative excellence throughout the institution, marking a period of transformative growth and innovation.
Commitment to New Education Policy and Research Enhancement
In his address, Fulari emphasized that the university's recent initiatives are closely aligned with the New Education Policy (NEP), aimed at elevating research standards and modernizing educational practices. Over the past two years, BAMU has implemented a series of comprehensive measures designed to improve both academic rigor and administrative efficiency, setting a new benchmark for higher education in the region.
Key Achievements Under Fulari's Leadership
One of the most notable accomplishments during Fulari's tenure has been the revival of the PhD admission process, which had been stalled for four years prior to his appointment. This move has reinvigorated research opportunities and attracted scholars to the university. Additionally, Fulari has prioritized student engagement by organizing district-level youth festivals for the first time in over a decade and launching a dedicated folk art festival this year, fostering a vibrant campus culture.
Administrative and Academic Innovations
Under Fulari's guidance, BAMU has undertaken extensive audits of 417 affiliated colleges, ensuring compliance and quality standards. The university has also introduced innovative "industry embedded programmes" in four key departments, bridging the gap between academia and the professional world. To maintain examination integrity, surprise visits to test centers have become a standard practice, enhancing transparency and fairness.
Focus on Student Well-Being and Infrastructure Development
The university's 2025-26 budget reflects a strong emphasis on student welfare, with increased honorariums for athletes and new funding for open-air gyms, promoting physical health and wellness. Infrastructure growth has been robust, with projects totaling approximately Rs 77 crore funded through university resources and the central PM-USHA initiative. Notable additions include:
- A stress buster recreation facility to support mental health.
- The Centre for Folk and Cultural Studies of Marathwada, preserving regional heritage.
- A new 250-seat auditorium for academic and cultural events.
Modernization efforts have extended to 50 departments across the main campus and Dharashiv sub-campus through the installation of smart classrooms, enhancing the learning environment with cutting-edge technology.
Foundation for Future Growth and Excellence
Fulari stated that these diverse developments have laid a stable foundation for future growth, ensuring that BAMU remains a premier hub for learning, cultural preservation, and cutting-edge research excellence. His leadership continues to drive the university toward new heights, with a clear vision for sustained progress and innovation in the years ahead.
