IIT Roorkee Launches SPARK 2026 Summer Internship Program for Undergraduate Students
The prestigious Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee has officially opened applications for the 2026 edition of its highly regarded SPARK summer internship program. This initiative is specifically designed to provide valuable research exposure to undergraduate students from institutions across India, aiming to nurture academic talent and encourage participants to consider pursuing higher studies at IIT Roorkee.
Program Structure and Duration
The SPARK internship program will be conducted in physical mode at the IIT Roorkee campus, running from May 18, 2026 to July 10, 2026. This comprehensive program is structured to offer hands-on research experience to students currently enrolled in undergraduate programs throughout the country. Interns will work under direct faculty supervision for a period of six to eight weeks, gaining practical insights into advanced research methodologies.
Eligibility Criteria and Academic Requirements
Applicants must have completed at least two semesters of their undergraduate degree in specific disciplines including B.Arch., B.E., B.Tech., BS-MS or M.Sc. from any recognized institute in India. The minimum CGPA requirements vary significantly based on the applicant's institution:
- Students from IITs and IISc must maintain a minimum CGPA of 7.5
- Students from NITs, IISERs and NISER require a minimum CGPA of 8.0
- Students from all other institutes must have a minimum CGPA of 8.5
Application Process and Requirements
Interested students must submit their applications through the official SPARK portal before the March 8, 2026 deadline. The online application system requires candidates to upload several documents including their latest semester marksheet, a recent photograph, a 250-word research statement outlining their academic interests, and a comprehensive one to two-page résumé.
Applicants are also required to indicate five faculty members of their choice from the list of professors willing to host summer interns. Students from institutes other than IIT Roorkee must provide a No Objection Certificate upon joining the program.
Benefits and Facilities for Selected Interns
Selected candidates will receive a generous stipend of Rs 3000 per week throughout the internship period. Accommodation and mess facilities will be available in the Bhawans on payment of applicable charges, ensuring comfortable living arrangements during the program.
Interns will be issued temporary institute identity cards that grant access to numerous campus facilities including:
