A high-level delegation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) engaged in strategic discussions at the Central University of Gujarat (CUG) in Vadodara on Friday. The visit aimed to explore concrete pathways for strengthening ties between academia and the industrial sector.
Key Discussions on Curriculum and Industry Needs
The visiting team comprised Koyama Wataru, Deputy Assistant Director, South Asia Division-1, JICA Headquarters; Ryotaro Sekine, Associate Partner from McKinsey & Company's Tokyo office; and Miyagawa Ryota from the JICA India office. They held detailed talks with the university's faculty members and deans of various schools.
The core agenda revolved around a critical examination of the existing academic curricula. The dialogue focused on aligning educational programs with the evolving skill requirements of modern industries. Identifying viable avenues for sustained university-industry collaboration was a central theme of the meeting.
Building a Framework for Future Partnership
Professor Sony Kunjappan, the coordinator for the JICA programme at CUG, stated that the event was organized with the explicit objective of facilitating a meaningful dialogue on university-industry collaboration. The programme was chaired by Professor Sanjay Kumar Jha, Dean of the School of National Security Studies.
Professor Atanu Bhattacharya, the in-charge Vice-Chancellor of CUG, provided significant insight into the next steps. He revealed that based on the preliminary study and discussions undertaken by the delegation, a formal proposal will be prepared. This proposal will be submitted jointly to the Ministry of Education and JICA to establish a structured framework for collaboration.
