Punjabi University Honors 725 Graduates at 41st Annual Convocation in Patiala
The 41st convocation ceremony of Punjabi University in Patiala was a momentous occasion, with a total of 725 students receiving degrees and medals on Thursday. This significant event highlighted the academic achievements of scholars across various disciplines, marking a proud day for the institution and its community.
Distribution of Degrees and Awards
The convocation saw a diverse range of academic accomplishments recognized. 457 PhD degrees were awarded, showcasing the university's strong research focus. Additionally, 179 postgraduate and professional course degrees were conferred, along with 86 degrees for undergraduate toppers, celebrating excellence at all levels of higher education.
In terms of special honors, the university presented three Chancellor Medals and 18 donor-sponsored medals, acknowledging outstanding contributions and support. Punjab Governor and university Chancellor Gulab Chand Kataria, who presided over the ceremony, delivered an inspiring address. He emphasized that knowledge must serve society, urging graduates to apply their learning for the greater good.
PhD Highlights and Heritage Attire Innovation
Among the PhD awardees, the highest numbers were from the Social Sciences department, with 90 degrees, and Business Studies, with 85 degrees. This reflects the university's strength in these fields and its commitment to advancing research in areas critical to societal and economic development.
A notable feature of this year's convocation was the introduction of Punjabi heritage-inspired convocation attire. Designed to celebrate cultural roots, this unique attire allowed students to retain it as a keepsake, symbolizing their connection to the university and regional traditions.
