Indian cricket sensation Richa Ghosh has been honored with two prestigious recognitions following her stellar performance in India's historic ICC Women's World Cup 2025 victory. The young wicketkeeper-batter has been appointed as Deputy Superintendent of Police in the West Bengal Police and has also received the state's highest civilian honor, the Bangabhushan award.

Double Honors for World Cup Hero

The felicitation ceremony took place at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday, where Richa was celebrated by cricket legends and state dignitaries alike. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee personally handed over the DSP appointment letter to the cricketer, marking a significant moment in her career beyond cricket.

Richa Ghosh has become only the second Indian women cricketer to receive such a prestigious police appointment, following in the footsteps of other sportspersons who have been honored with similar positions for their outstanding contributions to Indian sports.

Grand Felicitation at Eden Gardens

The celebration was attended by some of the most prominent figures in Indian cricket and West Bengal politics. Cricket Association of Bengal president Sourav Ganguly and legendary fast bowler Jhulan Goswami joined Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in honoring the young cricketer.

The CAB recognized Richa's achievements with substantial rewards, including a cash prize of ₹34 lakh and a replica gold bat and ball. Additionally, she was presented with a gold chain during the ceremony, adding to the glittering honors bestowed upon her.

Homecoming Celebration in Siliguri

Before the Kolkata felicitation, Richa received a hero's welcome in her hometown of Siliguri on Friday. The city erupted in celebration as the World Cup winner returned home following India's triumph over South Africa the previous Sunday.

The 21-year-old cricketer played a crucial role in India's maiden ICC Women's World Cup victory, with her wicketkeeping skills and aggressive batting proving instrumental throughout the tournament. Her performance has inspired countless young athletes across the country, particularly in West Bengal.

The dual honors of DSP appointment and Bangabhushan award represent not just personal achievements for Richa Ghosh but also signal the growing recognition of women athletes in India. This recognition comes at a time when women's cricket is gaining unprecedented popularity and support across the nation.
