Bollywood Stars Turn Out to Vote in Maharashtra Civic Elections
Superstar Aamir Khan made his way to a polling booth in Mumbai on Thursday to exercise his franchise in the ongoing Maharashtra civic elections. The actor arrived at the station and later addressed the media outside.
After casting his vote, Khan emphasized the importance of voting and commended the arrangements at the booth. Speaking to reporters, he highlighted the need for everyone to participate.
"I would tell everyone to definitely cast their precious votes," Khan stated. "BMC has made very good arrangements here."
Family Members Also Participate
Earlier in the day, Aamir Khan's former wife Reena Dutta visited a polling booth to cast her vote. She was accompanied by their children, actor Junaid Khan and daughter Ira Khan.
The trio posed for photographs outside the polling station after voting, proudly displaying their inked fingers.
Aamir Khan's second former wife, filmmaker Kiran Rao, was also seen at a polling booth. She too posed for pictures and showed her inked finger to the cameras.
Other Celebrities Join the Electoral Process
Actor Akshay Kumar was among the first celebrities to vote on Thursday. Several other film personalities were spotted at various polling centres across the state.
These included:

- Suniel Shetty
Details of the Maharashtra Civic Elections
Polling is being held across 29 municipal corporations in Maharashtra. The elections follow a long and active campaign period and hold significance for major cities such as:
- Mumbai
- Pune
- Nagpur
- Thane
- Navi Mumbai
- Nashik
- Pimpri-Chinchwad
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena are contesting the elections together under the Mahayuti banner in most places, except Pune. The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is fighting the polls independently in many corporations.
In Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, both NCP factions have united under a joint manifesto.
Voter Statistics and Arrangements
According to the State Election Commission, approximately 3.48 crore voters are eligible to vote in these elections. A total of 15,908 candidates are contesting for 2,869 seats across 893 wards.
To ensure smooth voting, authorities have set up 39,092 polling centres across Maharashtra.
Polling began at 7:30 am on Thursday, January 15, and will continue until 5:30 pm. The counting of votes is scheduled for Friday, January 16.
