With the release of 'The Devil Wears Prada 2' just days away, fans are still wondering whether other original cast members will return. American actor Adrian Grenier, who played Anne Hathaway's love interest Nate in the 2006 film, has been a hot topic as many question his absence from the sequel.
Why Adrian Grenier Is Not in 'The Devil Wears Prada 2'
In a recent interview with Page Six, Grenier opened up about his desire to be part of the sequel. However, he revealed that he was never approached to reprise his role, despite his wishes. He stated, 'We're all fans of the movie, whether or not we're in it. Obviously it was a disappointment that I didn't get the call to be in the sequel.'
When asked why he wasn't contacted, the actor joked about the matter and added, 'I also understand that there's some backlash with Nate, the character, so that might have something to do with it. All those memes that came out were shocking to me. It hadn't occurred to me until I started to really think about it, and perhaps it was because I was as immature as Nate was at the time, and in many ways he's very selfish and self-involved.'
Director David Frankel's Comments on Grenier's Return
Director David Frankel also expressed his wish for Grenier's return. While talking to Entertainment Weekly, he shared that initially there were plans for a quick cameo with Grenier's character. However, time constraints and issues led to the idea being dropped. He added, 'I had an idea about sneaking him into a cameo, and, in the end, it was just too late in our production schedule to make it happen.'
Adrien Grenier's Joke About Leaving Nate in the Past
In an advertisement for a famous coffee brand, Grenier wittily addressed his role in the first film and talked about leaving the character in the past. He joked, 'He made a mean sandwich. He loved his girlfriend, to a point. He wasn't perfect. So let's leave Nate in 2006 and keep this good energy going.'
'The Devil Wears Prada 2,' featuring the return of Anne Hathaway, Stanley Tucci, Meryl Streep, and Emily Blunt, will hit theaters worldwide on May 1.
