Adrija Roy on Women's Day: Empowerment Means Choice, Not Just Celebration
Adrija Roy: Women's Day is About Choice and Silent Strength

Adrija Roy Reflects on the True Meaning of Women's Day

Anupamaa actress Adrija Roy has shared her heartfelt perspective on Women's Day, stating that it goes far beyond mere social media celebrations. For her, this day is imbued with profound meaning, deep emotion, and immense pride. "Being a woman is the greatest blessing in the world," she expresses with sincerity. "It is about feeling proud of who we are and being grateful for the strength we carry inside us." She emphasizes that Women's Day also serves as a time to honor the struggles of women from previous generations, describing it as a blend of reflection, gratitude, strength, and self-love.

Redefining Empowerment in Modern Times

Discussing the concept of empowerment, Adrija notes how its definition has evolved over the years. "Earlier, people thought an empowered woman had to be bold and outspoken. But today, empowerment means choice," she explains. According to her, true empowerment lies in the ability to chart one's own path, whether in career, family, or both, without seeking external validation. She connects this idea to her roles on television, particularly in the show Anupamaa, which she says beautifully portrays a woman's journey to find her identity and voice. "It proves that empowerment is not always loud. Sometimes it is silent strength," she adds, also recalling her experience in Imlie, where her character demonstrated emotional resilience during challenging times.

Overcoming Gender Bias and Building Resilience

Adrija opened up about facing gender bias in her career, revealing instances where she was told certain decisions were unsuitable for a girl. "There were moments when I was told certain decisions are not suitable for a girl. But I chose to work harder and prove that talent has no gender," she states. These experiences, she says, taught her resilience and fortified her identity as an artist. She believes that women today serve as a guiding force, with financial independence playing a crucial role in building confidence and decision-making power. However, she stresses that societal mindset changes are still needed. "The day society stops questioning a woman's ambition, that day Women's Day will truly become a celebration of equality achieved," she concludes, highlighting the ongoing journey toward genuine gender parity.
