I immediately felt protective of the character. He is layered, wounded, sharp, and deeply human." His initial reaction was that the role demanded authenticity over mere performance. Knowing the film would have a nationwide release motivated him to prepare with greater discipline, focusing on elements like stillness, subtext, and emotional truth. "The big screen does not forgive anything artificial," he notes, "I wanted Ateet to feel real enough that audiences would believe him."
Avoiding Clichés in a Crime Thriller Role
Portraying a police officer in a crime thriller presented the challenge of steering clear of stereotypical portrayals. Amitt explains, "The biggest challenge was avoiding clichés. Police characters in crime thrillers can easily slip into stereotypes, but Ateet operates in a moral grey space. He is sharp, flawed, and emotionally burdened." To achieve this, he concentrated on restraint rather than overt intensity, working meticulously on the character's body language, silence, and listening skills. "The emotional challenge was carrying the weight of the cases without dramatising it, allowing the exhaustion and inner conflict to stay under the surface," he reveals, underscoring the nuanced approach required for such a complex role.
