Ashwath Marimuthu Opens Up About Unrealized Rajinikanth Collaboration
Director Ashwath Marimuthu, acclaimed for his work on films like Oh My Kadavule and Dragon, has recently disclosed intriguing details about a project that nearly materialized with legendary actor Rajinikanth. In a candid conversation, Marimuthu revealed that he had the opportunity to narrate a story to the superstar, which was highly appreciated but ultimately did not move forward to production.
The Initial Connection and Story Narration
Ashwath Marimuthu explained that Rajinikanth reached out to him after watching his film Dragon, expressing appreciation for various aspects of the movie. During their meeting, Rajinikanth inquired if Marimuthu had any story ideas. "I told him I had one, but I already had commitments at that time," Marimuthu recalled. Later, when he found time, he meticulously prepared a story specifically for the iconic actor.
The director described the narration session as particularly memorable. "I narrated the story, and he liked it a lot. He heard the story without moving and even skipped his food," Marimuthu shared. He added that Rajinikanth praised the story extensively, with special mention of the villain's role, indicating his genuine engagement with the narrative.
Project Halt and Encouraging Words
Despite the positive reception, the project did not progress beyond the initial stages. Marimuthu noted, "Everything was going well, but due to some reasons, it did not happen." However, Rajinikanth offered encouraging words, advising Marimuthu to keep the story safe and suggesting it would suit actors of his caliber or Kamal Haasan. The superstar even called Raj Kamal Films to discuss Marimuthu's story, demonstrating his support.
For Ashwath Marimuthu, this recognition held significant value. "The fact that he liked my narration itself is a big happiness for me," he expressed, highlighting how the opportunity to present his work to such an esteemed figure marked a pivotal moment in his career.
Praising Rajinikanth's Humble Demeanor
Beyond the professional interaction, Marimuthu spoke extensively about Rajinikanth's humility and respect for directors. He recounted an instance where he informed Rajinikanth on a Sunday that his story was ready, and by Monday morning, the actor had already allocated time for him. "When I reached early, he was already there waiting," Marimuthu said, illustrating the superstar's punctuality and consideration.
He further shared a touching anecdote: "He had an important meeting but still said sorry for making me wait." Rajinikanth even sent his manager to apologize again and personally expressed regret multiple times. Reflecting on these gestures, Marimuthu concluded, "At that moment, I understood why he is still a superstar even at 75."
Current Projects and Future Endeavors
While the Rajinikanth project remains unrealized, Ashwath Marimuthu has moved forward with other ventures. He has currently locked his next film with actor Silambarasan, tentatively titled STR51. The pre-production work for this romantic drama is progressing steadily, with reports indicating that Silambarasan will be sporting a different look for the film.
Marimuthu's revelations provide a fascinating glimpse into the collaborative dynamics of the Tamil film industry and underscore the enduring influence of Rajinikanth, not just as an actor but as a respectful and humble professional who continues to inspire filmmakers across generations.
