Haryana Women's Commission Issues Fresh Summons to Rapper Badshah Over Controversial Song

The Haryana State Commission for Women (HSCW) has escalated its inquiry into the controversial Haryanvi track Tateeree by issuing another formal summons to the popular rapper-singer Badshah. This latest notice comes after the artist failed to appear before the commission following an initial summons, intensifying the ongoing controversy surrounding the song's lyrics and visuals.

Commission Demands Clarification on Controversial Content

Officials confirmed that the commission has sent a fresh notice requiring Badshah, whose real name is Aditya Prateek Singh Sisodia, to personally appear and provide clarification regarding the intent behind the song's contentious lyrics. The matter has been scheduled for a formal hearing on March 13 at the DC Office in Panipat, where HSCW chairperson Renu Bhatia will preside over the proceedings.

The controversy erupted shortly after the song's release earlier this month, with multiple social groups and activists alleging that both the lyrics and accompanying visuals objectify women and contain inappropriate references that sexualize school-going girls. Prominent organizations including the Nari Tu Narayani Utthan Samiti and the Shiv Aarti India Foundation filed formal complaints demanding immediate action against the singer and everyone involved in producing the controversial music video.

Commission Takes Strong Stance Against Disrespectful Content

Taking suo motu cognizance of the mounting complaints, the women's commission initiated a comprehensive inquiry and issued its first summons to the artist. The commission stated it would thoroughly review whether the song's content violates established norms concerning the dignity and appropriate representation of women in media.

HSCW chairperson Renu Bhatia offered strong criticism of the track, describing it as disrespectful to what she called "the daughters of Haryana." She emphasized that such language in popular music cannot be accepted under any circumstances and issued a clear warning that if the singer fails to cooperate with the ongoing inquiry, the commission could recommend restrictions on his performances within the state.

Bhatia characterized the song as both "unforgiving" and "insulting," adding the pointed remark: "Badshah hoga apne ghar ka" (He might be the king of his own house).

Legal Action and Police Investigation Underway

The controversy has triggered significant legal consequences beyond the commission's inquiry. The Haryana Police have registered a formal First Information Report (FIR) concerning the allegedly objectionable lyrics and visuals featured in the music video. Investigators are examining multiple aspects of the production, including the reported unauthorized use of a Haryana Roadways bus prominently shown in the video.

Badshah's Public Apology and Defense

Amid mounting backlash, Badshah released a public apology through a detailed video message, asserting that he never intended to hurt anyone's sentiments, particularly those of Haryanvis. He confirmed that the song had been removed from all online platforms following the widespread uproar.

In his video statement, the rapper explained: "I never intended to say anything objectionable against any woman or child from Haryana. I am from the hip-hop genre where lyrics often show looking down on competitors. These are never for any woman or child."

He concluded his apology by stating: "I have always tried to take Haryanvi language and culture to new heights. But if anyone is hurt, I seek an apology. I expect that you will forgive me by considering me the son of Haryana."

Upcoming Hearing to Determine Further Action

Authorities indicated that the commission will carefully review all complaints alongside the singer's explanation during the upcoming March 13 hearing before determining any further action. The proceedings represent a significant moment in the ongoing debate about artistic expression, cultural sensitivity, and women's representation in popular media within the region.
