Tragic Death of Bengali Actor Rahul Banerjee During Filming in Odisha

In a devastating incident that has sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry, popular Bengali actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee, aged 43, died on Sunday while shooting for a series titled 'Bhole Baba Paar Karega' off the Talsari beach in Odisha, approximately 8 kilometers from Digha.

Details of the Fatal Incident

Subhashis Mondal, director of the series, provided a detailed account of the tragic events. "The scheduled shoot had concluded, and most of the cast members had already left the location," Mondal explained. "However, Rahul-da insisted on capturing an unscripted drone shot to enhance the visual appeal of the scene."

The filming involved honeymoon sequences featuring Rahul Banerjee and co-star Sweta Mishra in knee-deep water. According to Mondal, the first take was successfully completed, but Mishra felt uneasy after being hit by a small wave and decided to exit the water.

"Rahul-da wanted a second take with him facing the camera directly, and he ventured deeper into the water despite repeated requests from the entire team to come out," Mondal recounted with evident distress. "A larger, unexpected wave caused him to lose his footing and swallow water. We immediately jumped into action to rescue him."

Lifeguards joined the frantic rescue operation, and the actor was rushed to Digha State General Hospital. "He responded twice during transportation to the medical facility," Mondal noted, "but was pronounced dead upon arrival."

Medical and Police Response

A senior doctor at Digha State General Hospital confirmed the tragic outcome. "The patient was brought to the hospital around 6:10 PM," the medical professional stated. "By the time our doctors examined him, he had already passed away."

Officers from the Digha coastal police station arrived at the hospital shortly after receiving notification of the incident. "He was brought in a lifeless state," confirmed a police officer involved in the initial response.

The body has been kept at the Digha hospital morgue, with a post-mortem examination scheduled to take place at Contai Sub-divisional Hospital on Monday morning.

Police Investigation into Safety Protocols

A senior police officer from East Midnapore district revealed that an unnatural death case has been registered and an investigation is underway. "While preliminary evidence suggests a possible heart attack followed by drowning, we need to await the post-mortem report to determine the exact cause of death conclusively," the officer explained.

The police are actively questioning crew members to reconstruct the sequence of events. "We are trying to ascertain whether appropriate safety protocols were followed during the shoot," the officer emphasized, highlighting concerns about on-set safety measures.
