Producer Accuses Actor Biju Menon of Breaching Contract, Causing Financial Loss
Biju Menon Accused of Skipping Promotions, Causing Rs 25 Lakh Loss

Producer Levels Serious Allegations Against Actor Biju Menon Over Promotional Duties

Following accusations from FEFKA general secretary B Unnikrishnan, producer Anoop Kannan has now come forward with similar claims against actor Biju Menon regarding promotional activities for their film 'Nadanna Sambhavam'. The producer has formally accused the actor of breaching their contractual agreement, resulting in significant financial repercussions for the production.

Contractual Obligations and Alleged Breach

In an exclusive interview with Manorama Online, producer Anoop Kannan detailed the contractual obligations that he claims Biju Menon failed to fulfill. The contract, drawn up by the Kerala Film Producers' Association, explicitly required lead actors to participate in promotional activities for a period of ten days following the film's release in June 2024.

The producer emphasized that while the industry understands actors have multiple commitments, a minimum participation of two to three days is considered reasonable and expected. 'Nadanna Sambhavam' featured Biju Menon alongside Suraj Venjaramoodu in lead roles, making their promotional participation crucial for the film's commercial success.

Financial Impact and Personal Disappointment

According to the producer, the alleged breach of contract resulted in a substantial financial loss of approximately Rs 25 lakh. This significant amount represents the potential revenue that promotional activities could have generated through increased audience awareness and ticket sales.

What makes this situation particularly poignant, according to Kannan, is the personal relationship he shares with the actor beyond their professional collaboration. "My friendship with Biju Menon stretches far beyond our professional relationship," the producer revealed. "I had genuinely hoped he would honor the commitment we signed, especially considering our good personal rapport."

Limited Participation and Unanswered Requests

The producer described a frustrating sequence of events where initial willingness from the actor turned into apparent avoidance. Despite multiple requests and repeated attempts to contact both Biju Menon and his manager, the actor's participation remained minimal.

"In the end, he participated for just two-and-a-half hours on one single day," Kannan stated. "He arrived at 11:30 am and departed by 2:00 pm, citing various reasons and concerns throughout that brief period." This limited engagement fell far short of the contractual ten-day requirement and even below the industry-standard minimum of two to three days.

Industry Response and Unresolved Complaint

When the producer escalated the matter to the Film Producers' Association, he received assurances that the complaint would be addressed before Biju Menon's next film release. However, the actor's subsequent project 'Valathu Vashathe Kallan', directed by Jeethu Joseph, was released before any resolution could be reached.

The entertainment industry is now watching closely as this dispute unfolds. Biju Menon has not yet publicly responded to these allegations, leaving many questions unanswered about contractual obligations in the Kerala film industry and the responsibilities of lead actors toward promotional activities that directly impact a film's financial success.

This case highlights the ongoing tension between artistic commitments and commercial necessities in the film industry, where promotional activities have become increasingly crucial for box office performance in an era of abundant entertainment options.
