Bimal Oberoi Opens Up About Grueling Audition Journey for Dhurandhar
Actor-producer Bimal Oberoi, who portrays the crucial character of Shirani in the highly anticipated film Dhurandhar, has recently shared fascinating insights into how he secured the part and the significant personal transformation he underwent for the role. The movie is directed by acclaimed filmmaker Aditya Dhar, known for his meticulous approach to storytelling.
The Challenging Casting Process and Physical Transformation
In an exclusive interview, Bimal Oberoi revealed that the casting procedure was far from simple or straightforward. He explained that the production team had already completed shooting a substantial portion of the film when they began searching for the right actor to play Shirani. Oberoi's journey involved multiple auditions spread over several months, with constant back-and-forth communication as his performances were sent for feedback and revisions.
"I auditioned repeatedly over a few months," Oberoi recounted. "They would send my tapes for evaluation, call me back for another try, and this cycle continued. Eventually, I met director Aditya Dhar, who presented me with a unique demand: to grow a genuine beard and shave my head completely for the character. I agreed without hesitation because this role represents an incredible artistic opportunity."
The actor emphasized that considerable preparation went into embodying Shirani, noting that since he resumed his acting career in 2018, this project has become an especially significant milestone in his professional journey.
Praising Ranveer Singh's Multifaceted On-Set Leadership
Bimal Oberoi also expressed immense admiration for his co-star Ranveer Singh, who plays the character Hamza in Dhurandhar. According to Oberoi, Singh's commitment extended well beyond his acting responsibilities, demonstrating remarkable ownership of the entire production.
"Ranveer was deeply invested in the film; he truly owned it," Oberoi stated. "During filming, he wasn't just Hamza—he also functioned as a first assistant director and a producer, ensuring that every detail was handled perfectly. Since I joined the production relatively late, he made certain that all newcomers, including myself, were fully integrated and supported."
Emotional First-Day Support and Seamless Collaboration
Recalling his initial day on set, Oberoi highlighted the emotional and professional support he received from Ranveer Singh. Before filming a pivotal scene, the two actors engaged in a heartfelt conversation that helped break the ice and establish a strong working relationship.
"On my first day, we had a very emotional discussion prior to a crucial scene," Oberoi shared. "Ranveer ensured that everything around me was perfectly arranged. That initial connection was vital. Even though he is younger than me, he conducted himself with the maturity and professionalism of a seasoned veteran. This made the subsequent scene feel effortless, eliminating any inhibitions I might have had."

Beyond Ranveer Singh and Bimal Oberoi, Dhurandhar: The Revenge features an impressive ensemble cast that includes notable talents such as Sara Arjun, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, Rakesh Bedi, R Madhavan, and Gaurav Gera, among others.
