The publication has accused the movie of distorting historical facts related to the deadly 2020 border clashes between Indian and Chinese troops.
China's Strong Objection Through State Media
In a recent article, Global Times cited an expert who asserted that while Bollywood films might offer emotionally charged entertainment, they cannot rewrite history. The expert stated that "no amount of cinematic exaggeration can rewrite the history or shake the PLA's determination to defend China's sovereign territory." This criticism highlights the sensitive nature of the film's subject matter for Beijing.
Film Inspired by 2020 Galwan Valley Clash
The movie draws inspiration from the violent confrontation that occurred on June 16, 2020, in the Galwan Valley along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). The clash resulted in the tragic loss of 20 Indian soldiers, while the Chinese side also acknowledged suffering significant casualties, though it never publicly disclosed an official number.
Salman Khan unveiled the film's teaser on his Instagram handle to mark his birthday. The preview features the actor in the role of an Indian Army officer, portraying a stern and controlled demeanour. Set against rugged, freezing high-altitude landscapes, the teaser includes intense close-quarter combat sequences, aiming to depict the harsh realities faced by soldiers.
Escalating Tensions and Subsequent Disengagement
The 2020 Galwan clash marked a severe downturn in India-China relations, leading to a major military buildup. In response, the Indian Army deployed additional formations in the Galwan Valley and along the LAC in Ladakh. A series of defensive measures were implemented, including detailed border surveys, to guard against potential aggression.
Since the deadly incident, both nations have engaged in prolonged military and diplomatic talks. These negotiations have led to a gradual disengagement of troops from multiple friction points along the border and the establishment of buffer zones in several areas, though a complete resolution remains elusive.
