Country singer Conner Smith is finally making a comeback to the world of country music after the fatal car crash that took the life of Dorothy Dobbins last year. In a recent interview, the singer reflected on the difficult time, revealing that at one point he had lost all hope in life and his future.
Conner Smith Opens Up About Life After the 2025 Car Crash
While speaking to PEOPLE about how his life changed following the crash, Smith admitted that nothing mattered to him anymore. He said, "I didn't care about my career or image or reputation or even how I would ever come back from this. I just really didn't care because it just didn't matter."
"In those moments, you see that every side of your life is on fire," he added, noting that what Dobbins' family was going through was ten times worse and was put first. "It was no longer about how many tickets I sell or how many streams a song gets or about whether my songs are respected in the upper echelon of critical acclaim," he explained.
The incident also left Smith uncertain about his future and with many unanswered questions. "You can't comprehend it. And those questions will linger. There are never going to be answers to why something that tragic would happen or why I was on that road in that second," he said.
Conner Smith Talks About How His Wife Leah Was His Biggest Support
During the interview, Smith shared that his wife Leah was there for him through everything. "In terms of our marriage, the truth was that all this did was just solidify and unify it more than anything ever could. She is such a rock. This tragedy reminded me of every reason I chose her as my wife. She embodies peace," he concluded.
What Happened with Conner Smith and Dorothy Dobbins in 2025?
Dorothy Dobbins, a 77-year-old lawyer and pedestrian, was walking on a crosswalk in the Germantown area of Nashville in June last year when she was hit by a car driven by Conner Smith, driving a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. The incident proved fatal. In February of this year, at the request of Dobbins' family, all charges against Smith were dropped, and he was not charged with any crime.
Smith is set to return to the stage, performing at select shows of Thomas Rhett's tour, 'The Soundtrack to Life Tour.'
