David Dhawan charmed audiences at a special fireside chat organized by PVR as part of the ongoing David Dhawan Film Festival. The lively conversation featured the veteran director sharing anecdotes about his life and films alongside his son Varun Dhawan, who will star in their upcoming comedy 'Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai', now set to release on June 12 instead of June 5.
Varun Dhawan Opens Up About First Flop
Varun spoke candidly about the impact of his first major setback, saying, "When I had my first flop, which happened after a couple of hits, it shook me very badly. I wondered, how did this happen? Why did this happen? This is because I had a row of hits. My father always told me that it is the law of averages." David then chimed in with a confession of his own, admitting, "There's one film of his that didn't work and it depressed me. It was a very big film. Karan Johar must have sold his last shirt to make that movie! That film was 'Kalank' (2019)." The veteran director had the room in splits as he revealed, "I asked Sanjay Dutt, 'Why did you do this film? Because Madhuri Dixit was in it?' Sanju was very upset during that film." Varun rounded off the moment with a heartfelt reflection, adding, "A lot of hard work was put into that film. It was the hardest we have worked on a film. Hence, we wondered why it didn't work."
Amitabh Bachchan's Prophetic Praise
David also shared a touching memory from Varun's debut film 'Student Of The Year' (2012). He said, "I went to see Varun's first film. I remember he was feeling a bit nervous. But when I saw the climax of the film, I told him, 'You've done very well.' Then, at night, I got a message about him. It said, 'Lambi race ka ghoda.' Do you know who sent it? It was Amit ji (Amitabh Bachchan)!"
Release Date Change for 'Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai'
On the work front, Varun Dhawan is gearing up for his upcoming release 'Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai', though fans will now have to wait a little longer than expected. The film, originally slated to open on June 5, has been pushed to June 12, with the makers issuing an official statement. The statement read, "We would like to clarify that our film 'Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai' was originally scheduled for release on June 5, a date we had announced several months ago. However, after recent developments and considering the prevailing situation, we felt it would be more appropriate to shift our release."
