In a much-anticipated announcement, acclaimed director Jeethu Joseph has finally revealed the release window for the Malayalam version of Drishyam 3, the next chapter in the blockbuster thriller franchise starring Mohanlal. The filmmaker confirmed the movie is slated to hit theatres in the first week of April 2026, marking a summer treat for cinephiles.

Jeethu Joseph made the revelation during an event at a private hospital in Kochi. He stated that an official announcement with the exact date would follow soon. However, the director also had a crucial message for the legions of fans awaiting the film. He urged audiences to watch Drishyam 3 "without setting their expectations too high."
He acknowledged the immense pressure that comes with the franchise, noting, "Drishyam is a film that influenced many people, and hence, it carries a weight of its own." His comments suggest a conscious effort to steer the narrative in a fresh direction rather than simply replicating the past successes of Drishyam (2013) and Drishyam 2 (2021).
Production Status and Other Projects
The third instalment, which went on floors on September 22, 2025, wrapped up its principal shooting on December 2, 2025. The film is currently in the post-production phase, finalising editing, music, and visual effects. The cast includes Mohanlal reprising his iconic role of Georgekutty, alongside Meena, Ansiba Hassan, and Esther Anil.
Jeethu Joseph also reminded everyone that he has been working on other projects. His next directorial venture, Valathu Vashathe Kallan starring Biju Menon and Joju George, is set for release on January 30, 2026. "It's not just Drishyam, you know; I am doing other films as well," he quipped, expressing confidence in the upcoming film.
Hindi Remake Controversy and Timeline
This update on the Malayalam original comes amidst developments in its Hindi counterpart. The makers of the Ajay Devgn-led Hindi Drishyam 3 recently announced its release date as October 2, 2026. This date cleverly aligns with the iconic alibi date from the franchise's storyline.
However, the Hindi version has been in the news for a different reason. Actor Akshaye Khanna, who played a pivotal role in Drishyam 2 (2022), has exited the project, creating some controversy and speculation among fans.
