FWICE Issues Formal Notice to OTT Platform Over Manoj Bajpayee's 'Ghooskhor Pandat' Title

The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has taken direct action by writing to the popular OTT platform hosting Manoj Bajpayee's latest project, 'Ghooskhor Pandat.' This move follows significant public backlash and controversy that erupted immediately after the trailer's release online.

Strong Objection to the Film's Title

According to reports from IANS, 'Ghooskhor Pandat' has faced intense criticism since its trailer and title became public. FWICE has formally objected to the official title of Manoj Bajpayee's project, addressing multiple OTT platforms directly with their concerns.

The organization began its statement emphatically: "FWICE and all its affiliated associations strongly object to the use of this title, as it appears to single out and target a particular community and its traditional means of livelihood in a derogatory and offensive manner."

They further warned that "such a title has the potential to hurt sentiments, provoke misunderstanding, and disturb social harmony."

Call for Responsibility in Film Industry

FWICE emphasized that there should be no division or issues based on themes of "caste, creed, religion, or profession." The organization elaborated on the film industry's broader responsibilities:

"The film industry, being a powerful medium of expression, carries a moral and social responsibility to ensure that its content and titles do not promote hatred, disrespect, or unrest among citizens."

They made a direct appeal: "We therefore appeal to all producer bodies to refrain from allowing the registration or continuation of film titles that are provocative in nature and capable of creating unrest among Indians."

Legal Action and Production House Pressure

FWICE has condemned the project's title and expressed that the production house behind it should strongly consider changing it as soon as possible. Adding to the controversy, a case against the film has been filed in the Delhi High Court.

Many allegations have surfaced online claiming that the title specifically targets the Brahmin community, further intensifying the debate around the project's naming and thematic elements.

About the Federation of Western India Cine Employees

The FWICE represents a substantial portion of the media industry workforce, comprising 36 affiliated associations with members including workers, technicians, and artists. As a key representative body, their interventions carry significant weight in industry discussions about content sensitivity and social responsibility.

This development highlights the ongoing tension between creative expression and social harmony in India's entertainment landscape, particularly as OTT platforms continue to expand their original content offerings.
