Holly Hallstrom Breaks Decades of Silence on 'The Price Is Right' Firing
More than thirty years after her departure from the iconic game show 'The Price Is Right,' former model Holly Hallstrom is finally sharing her complete story. In a revealing new interview, Hallstrom has disclosed that her termination was not due to weight concerns as publicly stated, but was actually retaliation for her refusal to participate in legal proceedings surrounding the show's other major scandals.
The Untold Story Behind the Barker's Beauties Departure
Hallstrom recently spoke with PEOPLE magazine about her involvement in the 'Dirty Rotten Scandals' documentary series, which features a comprehensive two-part episode examining the behind-the-scenes drama of 'The Price Is Right.' During this conversation, Hallstrom opened up about the circumstances that led to her dismissal after nearly twenty years as one of the celebrated "Barker's Beauties" on the popular television program.
The catalyst for Hallstrom's troubles began with the aftermath of Dian Parkinson's affair with host Bob Barker and the subsequent fallout when that relationship ended. Parkinson eventually filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against Barker, which created a tense environment where employees were compelled to provide sworn testimony about the working conditions on set.
A Refusal to Commit "Felony Perjury"
"Every single time you visited the studio, you were required to meet with lawyers who only wanted to hear negative information about Dian and testimony that Bob could not have possibly sexually harassed her," Hallstrom explained in the documentary interview. She described an atmosphere of intense pressure where legal teams sought specific narratives to support Barker's defense.
"I absolutely wanted nothing to do with this situation," Hallstrom continued emphatically. "I was the sole individual who was requested to provide a deposition and ultimately refused. I had no desire to commit felony perjury, which is precisely what it would have constituted if I had given the testimony they were seeking from me."
Weight Issues as a Convenient Excuse
Hallstrom firmly believes that her weight was merely a pretext for her termination, with the genuine reason being her unwillingness to testify in court proceedings. She elaborated on this perspective, stating, "I was not at all surprised that he utilized that as the excuse, the reason, the justification for firing me. However, when I was subsequently asked why I was let go, I told people honestly, 'I was informed it was because my weight had become a problem.'"
The former game show model had maintained her silence for decades, but following Barker's passing in 2023, she reconsidered sharing her complete account. When presented with the opportunity through the documentary series, Hallstrom decided to move forward with telling her story in full detail.
This revelation provides new insight into the complex dynamics that existed behind the cheerful facade of one of television's longest-running game shows, highlighting the difficult choices faced by employees during periods of institutional crisis.
