Hrithik Roshan Engages with Fans on VFX Quality in Recent Films
Bollywood superstar Hrithik Roshan recently sparked a significant online conversation by sharing a detailed note on Instagram addressing the ongoing debate surrounding visual effects (VFX) in Indian cinema, particularly referencing the highly anticipated film Ramayana. In his extensive post, the actor expressed strong support for filmmakers who push boundaries with VFX, praising their vision and effort.
Fan Questions Lead to Candid Responses About War 2 and Fighter
Following his initial post, Hrithik Roshan actively engaged with comments from fans and netizens. One fan specifically questioned whether the actor was indirectly defending the VFX in his own film War 2 through his supportive message. The fan commented, "Hrithik Roshan makes us question ourselves; that bad Ramayana VFX and War 2 VFX are debatable… Well, HR, I surrender in front of you! What a majestic stand you took! And did you just defend War 2 indirectly... Nevertheless, love always to My King."
In a direct and honest reply, Hrithik addressed the criticism head-on. He stated, "War2 had some physics/gravity issue and less time. It can happen. Whereas War 1 was absolutely spectacularly perfect." This acknowledgment highlighted specific technical challenges faced during production.
Another user inquired about his views on the VFX in the film Fighter and the visual effects company DNEG. Hrithik responded positively, noting, "Fighter VFX was very photorealistic." This brief yet clear endorsement contrasted with his more nuanced take on War 2.
Hrithik's Instagram Post Praises VFX Pioneers
In his original Instagram note, Hrithik Roshan expressed both frustration and admiration regarding VFX in cinema. He wrote, "Yes, bad VFX exists. It's sometimes so bad it's painful to watch. Especially for me... and especially when it's a film I'm part of."
He went on to commend filmmakers behind projects like Kalki, Bahubali, and Ramayana, as well as his father Rakesh Roshan for Koi Mil Gaya and Krrish. Hrithik described these creators as heroes with the courage to attempt unprecedented feats for the love of cinema. He emphasized, "From my point of view, they risked all that money and years and years of effort just so another 11-year-old kid could feel what I felt."
The actor concluded by calling their intentions noble and deserving of applause, expressing pride in his fellow Indians and a desire to contribute to such visionary projects.
Background on War 2 and Ramayana Releases
War 2, directed by Ayan Mukerji and part of Bollywood's spy universe featuring Jr NTR alongside Hrithik Roshan, was released in theaters in August 2025. Despite its star power and franchise backing, the film struggled at the box office and faced criticism for its CGI, VFX, and storyline.
Meanwhile, Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, is scheduled for a worldwide release in October 2026, ahead of Diwali. This epic has been at the center of VFX discussions, partly prompting Hrithik's public support for its makers.
This exchange highlights the growing scrutiny of VFX quality in Indian films and the willingness of major stars like Hrithik Roshan to engage openly with audience feedback while advocating for cinematic innovation.
