The Mumbai film fraternity witnessed an emotional and poignant evening on December 29, as the exclusive preview of the upcoming biographical war drama 'Ikkis' unfolded. The film, which marks the final screen appearance of the legendary actor Dharmendra, drew a deeply moved response from attending stars.

An Emotional Tribute from a Fellow Filmmaker

Among those profoundly affected was director Anil Sharma, known for the blockbuster 'Gadar'. Sharma took to social media platform X to pen a heartfelt note. He expressed being "deeply touched" after watching the film, revealing he watched Dharmendra's performance "with teary eyes." He praised the veteran icon's role, calling him a peerless performer who leaves behind a legacy of dignity and grace. Sharma also extended congratulations to the entire team of 'Ikkis' and gave a special mention to debutant Agastya Nanda for performing very well.

Star-Studded Cast and Inspirational Story

The film is a touching tribute to the heroic journey of Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, PVC, a brave officer of the Indian Army. Agastya Nanda, grandson of megastar Amitabh Bachchan, steps into the lead role of the young war hero. The film also introduces Simar Bhatia, niece of Akshay Kumar, in a key role. In a fitting and emotional casting, the late Dharmendra portrays the role of Arun's father, retired Brigadier M.L. Khetarpal. The ensemble cast includes accomplished actors like Jaideep Ahlawat, Sikandar Kher, and Vivaan Shah in pivotal parts.

Release Date and a Cinematic Farewell

'Ikkis' is officially scheduled for a theatrical release on January 1, 2026. This date will now hold added significance as it brings Dharmendra's final performance to audiences worldwide. The veteran actor passed away at the age of 89 on November 24. He had been facing age-related health issues and was hospitalized at Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital before being discharged for home care. His passing, just 12 days after returning home, marked the end of an era in Indian cinema, making 'Ikkis' his cinematic farewell.

The premiere event successfully highlighted the film's emotional core and its dedication to honoring a national hero and a beloved film icon, setting the stage for its highly anticipated release in 2026.
