Indrajith Sukumaran Reveals Army Dream & Father's Death Changed Destiny
Indrajith Sukumaran: Army Dream Ended After Father's Death

As his upcoming investigative thriller 'Dheeram' approaches its theatrical release, actor Indrajith Sukumaran has shared emotional revelations about the childhood dream that almost saw him joining the Indian Army instead of entering the film industry.

The Sainik School Foundation

In an exclusive conversation with Asianet News, Indrajith recalled his formative years spent in a Sainik School, where military discipline was an integral part of daily life. The iconic khaki uniform became second nature to him during these early years. "Khaki shirt, khaki pants was our uniform. So wearing khaki is something I'm very familiar with," the actor remembered, drawing a direct connection to his role in the forthcoming film 'Dheeram'.

The actor emphasized how the precision required in maintaining his uniform, the strict punishments for even minor negligence, and the expected behavior of a cadet left a permanent mark on his personality. He consciously incorporates these ingrained habits into his screen performances, bringing authenticity to roles that require discipline and structure.

The Army Dream That Nearly Materialized

Like many students from military educational backgrounds, Indrajith developed a strong aspiration to serve in the Indian Army. His dedication bore fruit when he cleared the written examination and received a call for the SSB interview - an achievement he remembers with particular pride. "Only eight or nine of us cleared it on the first attempt, and I was one of them," he shared, highlighting the competitive nature of the selection process.

After successfully navigating the interview stage, the young Indrajith traveled to Bengaluru for the mandatory medical examination. However, an unexpected eye infection temporarily halted his progress, with medical authorities advising him to return after receiving appropriate treatment. This medical delay would ultimately coincide with a life-altering personal tragedy.

A Tragic Turning Point

During the fifteen-day gap before his follow-up medical appointment, Indrajith's world changed forever when his father, renowned actor Sukumaran, passed away unexpectedly. This profound loss forced the young man to reconsider his career path entirely. "After that, I never thought about the Army again. Staying with my mother became my priority," he revealed, explaining his difficult decision.

Many of his batchmates from that time eventually joined the Army and continue to serve today. Looking back at that critical juncture in his life, Indrajith identifies his father's passing as the definitive "turning point" that unknowingly steered him toward a career in cinema, though through circumstances he would never have chosen.

Meanwhile, 'Dheeram', the investigative thriller featuring Indrajith Sukumaran, is scheduled to hit theaters on December 5, bringing the actor back to the big screen in a role that perhaps echoes the discipline of his almost-military past.
