Ranchi: Speaking at a day-long workshop here on Tuesday, Chief Minister Hemant Soren called for wider awareness drives among citizens to promote organ and tissue donation in Jharkhand.
The CM inaugurated the workshop, ‘Best Practices in Organ and Tissue Donation’, organized by the Jharkhand State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO), along with MOHAN Foundation and Manipal Organ Sharing and Transplant, two non-profits spreading awareness on organ donation in the country. He said that although it is a challenge to aware people in states like Jharkhand due to various socio-economic issues, there is an urgent need to raise awareness around it.
“Jharkhand often faces blood scarcity in many districts due to lack of awareness among people. In northern region states of the country, the awareness on organ donation is less compared to the southern states due to socio-economic issues. But government, healthcare institutions, social organizations, and public must work hand-in-hand to increase awareness about organ donation,” Hemant added.
During the event, Health Minister Irfan Ansari said the state government is working seriously towards establishing a transparent, scientific, and reliable system for organ donation and transplantation.
“Special emphasis is being placed on strengthening medical institutions, training specialists, and increasing public awareness in this regard. Organ and tissue donation, brain stem death certification, organ retrieval, organ preservation, cross-matching, and transplant immunology are extremely important aspects of modern medical science. Disseminating knowledge about these subjects among the general public is the need of the hour so that more people can understand the significance of organ donation and contribute to this life-saving cause,” Ansari added.
