Jagadish: Malayalam Cinema Starts on Time, Others Lag

Jagadish Applauds Malayalam Cinema's Unmatched Time Discipline

Veteran actor Jagadish has recently shed light on the critical aspects of timing and discipline within various film industries, offering a candid comparison that underscores the unique efficiency of Malayalam cinema. In a revealing interview, he emphasized that when a Malayalam film shoot is scheduled to commence at a specific hour, the team adheres to it precisely, a practice he claims is not uniformly observed elsewhere.

Stark Contrasts in Shooting Schedules

Jagadish elaborated on the disparities, noting that in many other regional film hubs, such as Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu cinema, there is a notable lack of punctuality. He provided a striking example: if a shift is announced for 7 AM in these industries, actors often arrive as late as 11 AM or 12 PM, leading to significant delays. The actor, known for his role in 'Marco', clarified that his intent was not to assign blame but to highlight a cultural difference in work ethics.

"The special thing about Malayalam films is that we start shooting early in the morning and we start exactly at the time we say," Jagadish explained. "In Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, nothing starts this early, as far as I understand. If they announce a 7 AM shift in Hindi, actors will report only by 11 or 12."

Experiences with Shah Rukh Khan and Industry Norms

Jagadish also shared insights from his collaboration with Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, praising Khan's professionalism. "When I acted with Shah Rukh Khan, he would come very early, but many heroes come very late," he remarked. He added that in Malayalam cinema, work typically concludes by 5 PM, ensuring a productive and efficient day on set.

Value of Time and Meticulous Planning

Beyond punctuality, Jagadish highlighted how the Malayalam industry deeply values time and dates, fostering a disciplined environment. He stated that producers maintain clear daily plans, which helps teams complete work faster and avoid confusion. "They understand the value of dates. When someone gives a date, they try hard not to let it clash," he said, emphasizing the strategic approach to scheduling that minimizes conflicts and enhances productivity.

Efficient Location Management

Jagadish further contrasted location change protocols between industries. In Malayalam cinema, teams move directly from one location to another, sometimes accomplishing three changes in a single day. In contrast, he observed that in some other film circles, crews often return to hotels to rest before proceeding, which can slow down production.

"I am not speaking badly about other industries, but here, if we have to shift from one location to another, we go straight to the next location," he noted, underscoring the streamlined operations that contribute to the industry's reputation for efficiency.

Upcoming Projects and Industry Insights

On the professional front, Jagadish is set to appear in the upcoming film 'Sukhamano Sukhamanu', continuing his longstanding career in the entertainment sector. His comments serve as a valuable perspective on the organizational strengths that may contribute to the success and resilience of Malayalam cinema in a competitive landscape.
