Janhvi Kapoor Opens Up About Social Media Culture and Online Harassment

In a candid recent interview, actress Janhvi Kapoor has shared her thoughts on navigating the often harsh world of social media, particularly addressing the online harassment she and her half-brother, Arjun Kapoor, frequently face. She revealed that the internet's opinions no longer hold significant weight for her, as she has developed a more detached perspective on the digital landscape.

Understanding Social Media Dynamics

Speaking to Grazia, Janhvi Kapoor reflected on the mechanics of social media culture, stating, "From what I understand about social media culture, everyone seeks prominence, views, and virality. When people create content about you, you're merely a scapegoat—they use your name for clickbait, rage bait, or anything else to boost their engagement. That's the only purpose you serve. Once you view it through that lens, you realize their words have nothing to do with you, and you start taking it less to heart."

Painful Experiences with Trolling

Despite her ability to detach, Janhvi admitted that witnessing the trolling directed at her brother, Arjun Kapoor, is deeply painful. She explained, "Everyone is doing what they must to make ends meet. You need to be transactional—nothing is that deep. It's foolish to dwell on this for more than five minutes. Of course, it hurts to feel misunderstood or when it escalates into bullying and harassment, as I've seen happen with my brother sometimes. There's no excuse for such behavior. Negativity fuels negativity, and you simply have to remove yourself from it."

Over recent months, Arjun Kapoor's Instagram posts have often attracted negative comments targeting his acting and films. Last month, on his late mother Mona Shourie Kapoor's birth anniversary, he shared an emotional note acknowledging that life had been "cruel" to him lately but reassured fans he would be okay. This prompted many users to rally in support, urging others to avoid hate and trolling.
