Duggar is facing charges of lewd and lascivious molestation of a child under 12, along with lewd behavior by someone 18 or older.
Jail records describe Duggar as 31 years old, standing 5'9" tall, weighing 206 pounds, with blue eyes and brown hair. He was booked just before 4 p.m. in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Disturbing Details of the Allegations Against Joseph Duggar
The allegations against Joseph Duggar are particularly harrowing. Per People, investigators state that Duggar inappropriately touched a 9-year-old girl under a blanket while they sat together. This alleged incident occurred in 2020 when the girl was vacationing with her family in Panama City Beach, Florida.
As reported by the Bay County Sheriff's Office, Duggar asked the girl to sit on his lap and then sexually abused her. He also allegedly had her sit next to him on a couch, covered them both with a blanket, and touched her inappropriately, including under her underwear. The BCSO detailed, "As the vacation continued, he also asked her to sit next to him on a couch and covered them with a blanket. During this time, Duggar manipulated the victim's underwear and grazed her genitals. Duggar would also continue to rub his hands on her thighs."
Police note that the alleged victim, who was nine at the time, did not disclose the abuse until years later during a forensic interview, which ultimately prompted law enforcement to take action against Duggar and arrest him. After the victim's father confronted him, Duggar reportedly admitted his actions to both the father and Tontitown detectives.
"The victim stated Duggar eventually apologized for his actions and the incidents stopped after the apology," the BCSO's statement continued. Duggar is currently in jail, awaiting transfer to Florida, where the alleged abuse took place, with a court date set for March 20.
