Ken Karunaas Faces Unexpected Hurdles Casting Heroines for Directorial Debut
Young actor Ken Karunaas has candidly discussed the significant challenges he encountered while trying to cast heroines for his upcoming film, 'Youth.' This project marks a major milestone in his career, serving as both his directorial debut and his first leading role. As the movie's release date of March 19 approaches, Ken has been actively engaged in various media campaigns and press interviews, where he shared these revealing insights.
Actresses Unaware and Unresponsive During Casting Process
In a recent interview with Cine Ulagam, Ken Karunaas disclosed a surprising detail: most of the actresses he approached were completely unaware that they were being considered for roles when he presented the script to them. He admitted that he initially dismissed similar claims made by actors like Pradeep Ranganathan and Abishan Jeevinth, thinking they were merely seeking sympathy. However, he soon faced the harsh reality himself during the production of 'Youth.'
According to Ken, several actresses declined to participate in the film despite expressing appreciation for the story. Some ignored his messages entirely, while others offered polite rejections. He emphasized that he was always transparent with them about the role's specifics and screen time, avoiding any false promises to secure their involvement.
Irony as Rejecting Actresses Now Show Support
In a twist of fate, Ken Karunaas noted that some of the same heroines who turned down the project are now publicly supporting the film. He mentioned that individuals are creating Instagram reels using the song 'Mutta Kalakki' from the movie, which he finds surprising given their previous lack of interest. Despite this, he has chosen to maintain professionalism by not revealing the names of the actresses who rejected working with him.
GV Prakash's Crucial Support Amid Production Challenges
Despite these setbacks, Ken Karunaas remained steadfast in his vision for 'Youth.' He narrated the script to multiple production houses, but many were hesitant to accept him as the lead actor. Some praised the story but suggested casting a different hero, yet Ken refused to compromise on his decision. He expressed gratitude towards music composer G. V. Prakash Kumar, who strongly backed the project and even waived his salary due to the film's tight budget, demonstrating unwavering support.
The film 'Youth' is scheduled to hit theaters on March 19, showcasing Ken Karunaas's resilience and dedication in the face of industry challenges.
