An unidentified man stabbed a police constable in Bengaluru on Sunday after the officer confronted him for causing a public nuisance. The incident occurred in the evening, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Attack on Duty
The constable, identified as Rathod, was on patrol duty when he noticed a man creating a disturbance in a public area. According to police officials, Rathod approached the individual and asked him to stop causing trouble. In response, the man pulled out a knife and stabbed Rathod multiple times before fleeing the scene.
Rathod sustained injuries to his chest and arm. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition. Doctors have stated that his injuries are not life-threatening, but he will require several days of observation.
Investigation Underway
Senior police officers have launched a manhunt for the suspect. Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) Dr. B. R. Ravikanthe Gowda said, "We have formed multiple teams to trace the accused. CCTV footage from the area is being examined, and we are confident of apprehending him soon."
The attack has raised concerns about the safety of police personnel on duty. The Karnataka Police Association has demanded stricter action against those who assault law enforcement officers. Association president R. Srinivas stated, "This is a grave incident. We urge the government to ensure swift justice and provide better protection for our officers."
Public Reaction
Residents in the area expressed shock over the incident. One local shopkeeper said, "It is terrifying that someone would attack a police officer in broad daylight. We hope the police catch the culprit quickly."
