Lisa Ray Opens Up About Emotional Impact of Dubai Events and New Poetry Venture
Actress and author Lisa Ray, on Friday, delivered a poignant reflection on the emotional toll of recent tensions and events unfolding in Dubai, which she considers a second home. In a heartfelt social media post, she shared her thoughts on uncertainty, resilience, and the vital role of art during difficult times, while announcing her upcoming book of poems.
Finding Solace in Words and Poetry
Ray revealed that she has been quietly working on a collection of poetry, describing it as a personal refuge. "A few years ago, I opened a quiet corner of the internet to share poetry. Words have always been my refuge - the place I go when clarity disappears and language is the only steady ground beneath my feet," she wrote. She emphasized that in dark seasons, people turn to creation, stating, "In dark seasons, we sing. We make art. We reach for language to hold what feels too heavy to carry alone."
Concerns Over Dubai as a Second Home
The actress expressed deep concern over the situation in Dubai, acknowledging the safety of UAE citizens and the leadership's efforts but highlighting the pervasive uncertainty. "Watching events unfold in our second home, Dubai, has been difficult - and yes I know citizens of the UAE are relatively safe and the leadership is excellent. I know that. But. The uncertainty. The messages between friends. The collective holding of breath," she shared. This reflection underscores the anxiety shared by many in the region.
Personal Tribute to Resilience and Family Experiences
Ray connected the current instability to her husband's childhood experiences in Lebanon, where he grew up with missiles overhead. She paid tribute to his spirit and the resilience of his family, as well as families worldwide for whom sirens are a normal part of life. "My husband grew up in Lebanon with missiles overhead. This is a tribute to his spirit, and to the resilience of his family - and to families across the world for whom 'normal' has always included the sound of sirens," she wrote.
Artistic Inspiration and Creative Exchange
She also mentioned how art inspires art, citing a line from her sister Avni Doshi's forthcoming novel, The First House, which sparked her own creative expression. Ray emphasized the importance of creation in response to uncertainty, urging, "If these are uncertain times, then let us answer with creation. Let us answer with tenderness. Let us answer with voice."
Lisa Ray's Professional and Personal Journey
On the professional front, Lisa Ray has built a diverse acting career across Indian and international cinema. She gained prominence with films like Kasoor and critically acclaimed projects such as Water, directed by Deepa Mehta.
