German Model LizLaz Breaks Silence on Virat Kohli's Viral Instagram Like

The social media world was set ablaze on Friday morning when cricket superstar Virat Kohli was discovered to have liked an Instagram picture posted by German musician and vlogger LizLaz. The incident quickly went viral, with numerous users drawing immediate comparisons to Kohli's 2025 'likegate' controversy involving actress Avneet Kaur.

LizLaz's Unexpected Viral Moment

LizLaz, whose post unexpectedly became a global talking point, has now broken her silence on the entire episode. In an exclusive chat with Hindustan Times, she revealed her reaction to Kohli's like and the subsequent social media frenzy that followed.

"It was crazy because I woke up and then I was all over the news," LizLaz told the publication. "I don't even know when he liked the picture. I actually learned about it through the news coverage. So many people found the articles written about me on various platforms and sent them to me through direct messages. I received an overwhelming number of messages today, with people being super excited about the whole situation."

Sympathy for Kohli After Unlike

Even after Kohli later removed the like from her post, LizLaz expressed more sympathy than disappointment toward the cricketing icon.

"No, I actually felt a bit sorry for him!" she said. "I was genuinely happy that he liked my picture initially, but when he unliked it, I felt somewhat bad for him because I don't even understand how this became such a massive story. How did people notice this? How did they turn it into news? That was probably not his intention behind liking the picture in the first place. Still, I am grateful for it, and I truly appreciate the support from him."

Resurfaced Interview Reveals Kohli Fandom

Meanwhile, a resurfaced clip from one of LizLaz's earlier interviews has been circulating online, in which she openly admitted to being a devoted fan of Virat Kohli. She explained that this admiration began during her first visit to India last year.

What was originally planned as a brief two-week stay with a close friend in Bengaluru transformed into a months-long journey across the country. Her travels included extended stops in Goa, Mysuru, Mumbai, Chennai, and Hyderabad, among other destinations.

"One of my best friends is from Bangalore, so I just wanted to visit them," LizLaz recalled. "I thought I would stay for maybe two weeks and then leave. But then I enjoyed it so much that I ended up staying for many months. I started traveling all over South India, including Goa, Mysore, Coorg, and later visited Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, and eventually the northern regions as well. It was during this trip that I got introduced to cricket as a sport. I had never watched it before or anything related to it. I was born in South Africa but brought up in Germany, where football is the only national sport that really matters."

IPL Introduction and RCB Fandom

That transformative Indian journey also introduced her to the high-octane world of the Indian Premier League. Watching matches with her friends from Bengaluru gradually turned her into a passionate supporter of Royal Challengers Bengaluru and, naturally, a fan of their star player, Virat Kohli.

"It was obviously the IPL last year, so I started watching matches with my Bangalorean friends," she explained. "The excitement was absolutely contagious. I found myself becoming a genuine Royal Challengers Bangalore fan. And obviously, if you support RCB, Virat Kohli is the most exciting player to watch. He's just so incredibly good at what he does. So I was genuinely happy about him liking my picture."

Unexpected Professional Opportunities

The viral moment has already brought unexpected professional interest her way, opening new doors that she hadn't anticipated.

"There have been so many queries coming in," LizLaz revealed. "But I am taking my time to consider everything carefully. I am deeply passionate about music and vlogging. If I receive genuine music opportunities in India, why not explore them? Maybe I will visit again soon. I actually wish I was there for the IPL this time around."
