Renowned Bollywood actor R Madhavan has shared a fascinating observation about how the global perception of Indian men has undergone a remarkable transformation over the years. The acclaimed performer noted that Indian men are now viewed with significantly more respect and admiration internationally compared to past decades.
From Suspicious Glances to Entrepreneurial Admiration
During a recent appearance on BookMyShow's Unscripted YouTube show alongside his De De Pyaar De 2 co-stars Ajay Devgn, Rakul Preet Singh, and Meezan Jafri, Madhavan recalled that just a few years ago, Indian men traveling abroad often faced cautious and suspicious looks from white women. "Sari gori ladkiyan aise dekhti thi jaise unko line marne aaye hain," Madhavan revealed, explaining that women would look at them as if they were there solely to flirt.
The Tanu Weds Manu star contrasted this with the current scenario, where the perception has completely shifted. "Now, when an Indian enters a space, four white women walk towards us thinking we are some entrepreneurs and they want to say hello," Madhavan stated enthusiastically. He added that this positive change in perception hasn't been adequately represented in Indian cinema yet.
Madhavan's Vision for Indian Cinema
Beyond discussing changing social perceptions, Madhavan also opened up about his professional aspirations and creative vision. The 3 Idiots actor expressed his desire to collaborate with fresh, new directors who bring innovative storytelling approaches to the industry.
"The thing that is getting in my way right now is the filmyness of the industry in terms of the way they think," Madhavan confessed. He noted that many filmmakers are creating stories primarily to please their mentors rather than exploring original narratives.
With his extensive experience in the film industry, Madhavan believes that combining his learnings with a director's fresh perspective could bring a modern and refreshing outlook to Indian cinema. This collaboration between experience and innovation, he suggests, could produce groundbreaking content that resonates with contemporary audiences.
Upcoming Project: De De Pyaar De 2
Madhavan's next cinematic venture is De De Pyaar De 2, directed by Anshul Sharma. The film serves as a sequel to the successful 2019 comedy De De Pyaar De and continues the story from where the first installment concluded.
The movie features an ensemble cast including Ajay Devgn, Rakul Preet Singh, Gautami Kapoor, and Meezaan Jafri. Fans can catch the film in theaters starting November 14, marking another significant release in Madhavan's diverse filmography.
Madhavan's observations highlight not just changing perceptions of Indian men globally but also reflect the growing international recognition of India's entrepreneurial spirit and professional capabilities. His insights provide a fascinating glimpse into how cultural stereotypes are evolving in an increasingly interconnected world.
