Mohanlal Defends 'Patriot' Amid Mixed Reviews, Talks 'Drishyam 3'

The much-anticipated film 'Patriot', reuniting Malayalam superstars Mohanlal and Mammootty after several years, has received mixed reviews. Directed by Mahesh Narayanan, the actioner was expected to deliver mass moments but left many disappointed. Criticism also targeted Mohanlal's character. In response, the actor opened up about the film's reception.

Mohanlal on 'Patriot' Criticism

In an interview with Galatta Plus, Mohanlal revealed that he was deeply impressed by the story when it was first narrated to him, which motivated him to accept the role. He stated, "Mixed reactions are coming in for the film. But I liked the movie. Very often, people evaluate a film by separating the character from the actor, and there is nothing we can do about that. When the story of this film was narrated to me, it felt like a different experience. That is why I agreed to do it."

Mohanlal also discussed the unpredictable nature of cinema, emphasizing that no actor can forecast a film's commercial performance. He explained, "When we make a film, it is impossible to predict how successful it will become. It is like a mystery formula. Even so, I approach every film with complete love and confidence. That is my job and also my social responsibility. When a character comes to me, my duty is to perform it with one hundred percent sincerity." He added that commercial success and box office numbers are impossible to predict, even for major hits.

Mohanlal Shares Thoughts on 'Drishyam 3'

Referring to 'Drishyam' as an example, Mohanlal noted that nobody anticipated its extraordinary success. He said, "We cannot predict the commercial success or box office collection of a film. Even in the case of Drishyam, no one knew it would become such a huge success. Especially when doing a film like Drishyam 3, I prefer to focus only on the character rather than thinking about its financial aspects."

He added, "Georgekutty and his family are something audiences all over the world are eagerly waiting to see. That is why we cannot take those characters lightly. We have to approach that film with great seriousness and honesty. Making money is a different matter, but what is most important is the honesty we maintain toward the film. The screenplay has come out very well."

Fahadh Faasil's Performance Also Gets Mixed Reviews

Fahadh Faasil's performance in 'Patriot' also received mixed responses from audiences. In response to the criticism, director Mahesh Narayanan defended the actor in an interview with Movie World Media. He said, "Fahadh has performed the character in his own complete way. The character is portrayed as someone with a troubled childhood. Fahadh is not a typical villain. There is a reason why he turns into one. You cannot set a fixed scale to measure a performance. Fahadh has performed very honestly. If people feel there is something wrong with that performance, then it could be my fault."

With 'Patriot' receiving mixed reports, all eyes are now on Mohanlal's 'Drishyam 3', which is scheduled for release on May 21.
