The buzz around 'Awarapan 2' has been growing since its official announcement by Vishesh Films on April 21, 2026. The sequel will feature Emraan Hashmi and Disha Patani in lead roles. However, Mohit Suri, who directed the original 2007 film, will not return as director. In a recent interview, Suri revealed that he was never offered the sequel and also discussed his longstanding creative partnership with Hashmi.
Mohit Suri on Not Directing 'Awarapan 2'
In an exclusive conversation with NDTV, Mohit Suri stated that he was not approached to direct the sequel. 'I was never actually offered it before, that's all. I think they wanted to work, but it's not that,' he said. Suri added that he would still collaborate with Hashmi without any hesitation. 'I would work with Emraan at the drop of a hat. The problem with him is that I've done eight films with him. He knows me so well. I have to give him a role; I can't just hustle him into doing some part. But I think it will be more beneficial for me than for him,' he explained.
'Awarapan 2' was initially scheduled for release on April 3, 2026, but was later pushed to April 14, 2026. The film may clash with Sunny Deol's 'Lahore 1947'. Unlike the original, the sequel will be directed by Nitin Kakkar.
Mohit Suri on Emraan Hashmi's Viral Moment
Suri also reacted to a viral scene from Aryan Khan's 'Ba***ds of Bollywood', where Raghav Juyal's character says, 'Akkha Bollywood ek taraf, aur Emraan Hashmi ek taraf.' Suri commented, 'That scene was kicka**... I think what Raghav was actually doing is what I've accomplished all my life.' He further added, 'Emraan is my elder brother. We actually grew up together watching the same films.' Suri described Hashmi as his 'first hero' and the star of eight films with him.
Suri also spoke about Hashmi rejecting the role of Rahul Jaykar in 'Aashiqui 2'. He said Hashmi felt the film needed new faces and joked that the actor was tired of dying in his films.
'Awarapan', released in 2007, initially had a weak box-office run but later gained cult status, thanks to Pritam's music and Hashmi's performance.
