Mumbai Actor Nadeem Khan Arrested in Decade-Long Sexual Assault Case
Mumbai police have made a significant arrest in a disturbing case of alleged sexual exploitation that spanned an entire decade. Actor Nadeem Khan, who recently appeared in the blockbuster film Dhurandhar, was taken into custody on January 22 following a detailed complaint filed by a 41-year-old woman who worked as domestic help.
Details of the Allegations and Police Action
According to official statements provided to news agency PTI, the complainant had been employed as domestic help for various actors over the years. She first came into contact with Khan several years ago, and their relationship gradually became closer over time. The woman has alleged that Khan repeatedly promised to marry her, using this assurance as a pretext to sexually assault her on multiple occasions.
The alleged assaults occurred at two primary locations:
- The complainant's residence in the Malwani area
- Khan's house in Versova, located in Mumbai's western suburbs
This pattern of alleged abuse continued for approximately ten years before the situation reached a breaking point. The woman claims that after years of exploitation, Khan ultimately refused to honor his marriage promise, prompting her to approach the Versova police station with a formal complaint.
Jurisdictional Complexity and Zero FIR Implementation
The case presented unique jurisdictional challenges for law enforcement authorities. Since the initial alleged assault took place at the complainant's residence in Malwani, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Malwani police station, while subsequent incidents occurred in Versova, police had to employ special legal procedures.
Officials explained that because the victim resides in the Malwani area and the first incident occurred there, the Versova police have transferred the case using a zero FIR mechanism. This legal provision allows any police station to register a First Information Report regardless of territorial jurisdiction, ensuring that victims can file complaints conveniently while maintaining proper investigative protocols.
Nadeem Khan, who gained recognition through his role in the Ranveer Singh-starrer Dhurandhar, is currently in police custody as investigations continue. The case has drawn significant attention to the vulnerabilities faced by domestic workers and the mechanisms available for seeking justice in complex jurisdictional situations.
