Veteran Actress Navnindra Behl, Known for Ishqbaaaz, Passes Away at 76
The entertainment industry is mourning the loss of veteran actress Navnindra Behl, who passed away at the age of 76. She was best known for her memorable role in the popular television series Ishqbaaaz. Her untimely demise was confirmed by her son, acclaimed filmmaker Kanu Behl, who shared an emotional tribute on his Instagram account.
Heartfelt Tributes from Family and Co-Stars
Kanu Behl expressed his profound grief in a poignant post, writing, "My Titan. My faith. Love. Guide. Mentor. My heart. Go well, mumma. Until you birth me again." This heartfelt message captured the deep bond between mother and son, resonating with fans and colleagues alike.
Nakuul Mehta, who shared the screen with Navnindra Behl in Ishqbaaaz, also paid a moving tribute on his Instagram handle. He posted a series of nostalgic pictures from the sets and shared a lengthy, emotional note reflecting on their time together.
Nakuul Mehta's Emotional Reflections
In his post, Nakuul wrote, "The beauty of long-running television shows is that they sometimes give you the opportunity to spend time with people who may have existed in worlds very different from yours until then... and then, almost magically, they end up shaping a significant part of who you were during those years." He emphasized how Navnindra's influence continued to resonate long after their collaboration ended.
He fondly recalled their daily interactions, saying, "We spent so many days sharing a set floor and many lunches over the three years we worked together on Ishqbaaaz. I’d often complain about the boring sabzis (read: lauki, karela) she’d bring, and she would continue to insist that we try her food. She didn’t give up. I never gave in."
Nakuul also shared a vivid memory from their first scene together, filmed around midnight in Turbhe. "A solemn moment between the matriarch and her grandson. There was something about her presence that made you feel so present in every scene," he noted, highlighting her professional dedication and ability to elevate performances.
A Legacy of Theatre and Television
Navnindra Behl hailed from a rich tradition of Punjabi theatre, where she wrote, directed, and produced numerous works. Despite her extensive experience and seniority in the industry, she was described as a light and humble co-actor. "She had more years in the business than the entire ensemble put together, but may have been the lightest co-actor to work with," Nakuul remarked, though he humorously added that she sometimes complained about television's demanding schedules.
Their off-set moments were equally cherished. Nakuul often drove her home after shoots, recalling those drives as some of his fondest memories. He admired her enthusiasm for engaging with fans on Instagram, her excitement about collaborating with Vishal Bhardwaj, and her loving stories about her husband and son.
Lasting Connections and Fond Memories
Even after Ishqbaaaz concluded, Nakuul and his wife Jankee maintained a close connection with Navnindra. They celebrated her 75th birthday in October 2024, a testament to their enduring friendship. "I doubt I ever called her Ma’am! None of us did. It was always Dadi. We will miss you, Dadi," he concluded, using the affectionate nickname she was known by on set.
Fans and colleagues have flooded social media with tributes, remembering Navnindra Behl as a sweet, inspiring presence who brought warmth and professionalism to every project. Her legacy in Indian television and theatre will continue to inspire future generations.
