Buzz is circulating that veteran actor Paresh Rawal has once again exited the much-anticipated comedy sequel Hera Pheri 3. According to reports, he has returned his signing amount along with an additional 15 per cent interest, marking what is being described as an amicable professional departure from the project.
No Response from Rawal, Priyadarshan Unaware
When contacted, Paresh Rawal did not respond to queries. Filmmaker Priyadarshan, who is set to direct the third instalment, stated, “I am not aware.” If true, this development comes months after reports suggested that all issues between Rawal and the film’s team had been resolved, and the actor was back on board.
Contractual Disputes Behind Exit?
Industry insiders claim that Rawal had reservations regarding the payment structure mentioned in the agreement, ultimately leading to his decision to step away from the film. Rawal’s portrayal of Baburao in the Hera Pheri franchise remains one of the most iconic comic performances in Hindi cinema, making rumours of his exit a major talking point among fans.
Franchise History and Turbulent Journey
The Hera Pheri franchise began with the 2000 cult comedy directed by Priyadarshan, starring Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, and Paresh Rawal. Over the years, Rawal’s Baburao Ganpatrao Apte emerged as a legendary comic character, with dialogues and scenes continuing to enjoy massive pop culture recall. The sequel, Phir Hera Pheri (2006), directed by Neeraj Vora, further strengthened the franchise’s cult status and box office popularity.
However, Hera Pheri 3 has witnessed a turbulent journey, with repeated delays, changes in creative direction, and casting speculation. At one point, John Abraham and Abhishek Bachchan were considered, sparking backlash from fans demanding the original trio. The project later regained momentum with Priyadarshan returning to direct and the original cast reportedly reuniting. Despite this, the film faces uncertainty, with recurring reports of contractual disagreements and Paresh Rawal’s involvement remaining a major point of discussion.
Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty are still part of the franchise’s third instalment, but the latest exit raises questions about the film’s future.
