Priscilla Presley Offers Candid Glimpse Into Early Romance with Elvis Presley
In a rare and intimate revelation, Priscilla Presley has shared heartfelt memories of her formative years with the legendary Elvis Presley, detailing how their nights were often spent immersed in private movie screenings at the iconic Graceland mansion.
Private Movie Nights at Graceland
Speaking at the Center for Family Services PBC 27th Annual Old Bags Luncheon in Palm Beach, Florida, the actress, businesswoman, and producer described how movie theaters would call them directly to arrange exclusive screenings. "We saw a lot of movies," Priscilla recalled. "We saw them first." According to her account in People magazine, this became a near-daily ritual during their marriage from 1967 to 1973.
The late-night routine typically involved dinner around 10 pm, followed by multiple films. "Sometimes we would see one, two, three, four movies all night," she shared. However, this glamorous lifestyle came with personal sacrifices, as Priscilla admitted, "I was always late for school, I'm sure," highlighting the challenge of balancing her education with a high-profile relationship.
Emotional Challenges and Quiet Struggles
Priscilla also opened up about the emotional difficulties she faced during that period. With Elvis' demanding career constantly in the spotlight, she often kept her personal struggles to herself. "I dealt with it. You know, I had to," she explained. "I was struggling, to be honest." Not wanting to burden the 'Burning Love' singer, she found solace in conversations with his grandmother.
"I would be with grandma and we would talk and laugh, and she would tell me all her stories about when she was growing up, what she did and how she was very close with Elvis' mother," Priscilla fondly recalled. These moments provided her with much-needed comfort and connection during turbulent times.
Reflections on Elvis and Upcoming Memoir
Discussing her forthcoming memoir, 'Softly, As I Leave You: Life After Elvis' set for release in 2025, Priscilla reflected on what Elvis might be doing today if he were still alive. The King of Rock and Roll passed away on August 16, 1977, at just 42 years old. "I think he'd be doing the same thing in life—singing and touring. He loved it," she said, imagining his enduring passion for performance.
The process of writing the memoir proved to be an emotional journey for Priscilla, taking more than eleven months to complete. "You remember a lot of things... A lot of remembering wonderful times and difficult times—and you're reliving your life," she shared, emphasizing how the project allowed her to revisit both joyous and challenging memories from her past.
This candid interview provides a unique window into the private world of one of music history's most iconic couples, revealing the personal sacrifices, emotional resilience, and cherished moments that defined their relationship beyond the public eye.
