Building Collapse in Pune

In Pune, a three-storey residential building collapsed in the Kondhwa area due to heavy rain. The incident occurred around 2 am, and rescue teams have pulled out 15 people from the debris. According to Pune Municipal Corporation officials, the building was old and weakened by the continuous downpour. Three people have been reported injured, and search operations are ongoing to check for any trapped residents.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the families of the deceased and ordered a structural audit of all old buildings in the city.

Orange Alert for Kerala and Karnataka

The IMD has issued an orange alert for several districts in Kerala and Karnataka, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall. In Kerala, the Idukki dam is nearing its full capacity, and authorities have opened shutters to release excess water, affecting downstream areas. The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre has warned of landslides in the Western Ghats region.

In Bengaluru, waterlogging was reported in areas like Silk Board, KR Puram, and Hebbal, causing traffic snarls. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has set up control rooms to assist residents.

Government Response and Advisory

Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed the situation in a meeting with top officials and assured all possible assistance to the affected states. The Home Ministry has deployed additional NDRF teams to Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Kerala. The Indian Army has been kept on standby for rescue operations.

The IMD has advised fishermen not to venture into the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal as rough seas are expected. Residents in flood-prone areas are urged to move to safer locations and follow local authority instructions.
