Prithviraj Sukumaran Stands Firm on Directing 'Empuraan 3'

In the face of mounting criticisms and widespread fan speculation, actor-director Prithviraj Sukumaran has made a resolute declaration regarding the future of his directorial franchise. During a recent press meet in Kochi, he emphatically stated that he will not retreat from helming the third installment, titled 'L2: Empuraan', commonly referred to as 'Empuraan 3'. This announcement comes after the second part faced mixed reactions, with some audiences expressing dissatisfaction.

Addressing Controversies and Fan Expectations

Prithviraj Sukumaran directly confronted questions about whether past controversies had dampened his enthusiasm for the project. As quoted by On Manorama, he asserted, "I have never backed down from a project just because of controversies. While some people may not have appreciated the film, it does not change my commitment to the work." He highlighted that during his travels, he frequently encounters eager fans inquiring about the third part, underscoring the persistent public interest.

However, he acknowledged significant challenges in moving forward. "The challenge, of course, is when I can pull it off. Of course, Lalettan's valuable time is also a part of the challenge, but ultimately, I have several directorial commitments to one or two producers that I must honour before working on this project," he explained. This indicates that scheduling conflicts, particularly with actor Mohanlal (affectionately called Lalettan), and prior obligations are key hurdles to overcome.

Views on Political Narratives in Cinema

During the same press interaction, actor Alexander Prasanth raised a query about Prithviraj's stance on films with political elements. Prithviraj offered a nuanced perspective, stating, "If a political narrative is crucial to the story and serves its purpose, I certainly have no issue with that." This balanced reply reflects his openness to diverse storytelling approaches, provided they align with the film's artistic integrity and narrative needs.

Reflections on Cameo Role in 'Pallichattambi'

Prithviraj also touched upon his brief appearance as Kunjambu Nambiar Patel in the Tovino Thomas-starrer film 'Pallichattambi'. His performance has garnered praise from many viewers, and he attributed this success to the director, Dijo Jose Antony. "As a director myself, I believe every actor's potential is guided by the director. The creativity that an actor displays ultimately stems from the director’s vision," he remarked.

He elaborated further, "Even the best technicians work within the framework set by the director. If my performance is considered successful, it is because I successfully aligned it with the director’s vision. I would feel truly proud of that achievement." This insight underscores his respect for directorial leadership and collaborative filmmaking processes.

Meanwhile, 'Pallichattambi' continues to receive mixed reviews from audiences, adding to the dynamic discourse surrounding contemporary Malayalam cinema.
