Pune Comic Con Unites Fans and Creators in a Vibrant Celebration of Pop Culture

Over the weekend, the Pune Comic Con transformed into a bustling hub of fandom, where diverse worlds collided in a spectacular display of creativity and nostalgia. This vibrant scene, captured by photographer Jignesh Mistry, epitomized the event's spirit of unity and imagination.

Reliving Childhood Memories Through Iconic Creators

The convention featured a star-studded lineup of artists and creators, drawing fans of all ages. Savio Mascarenhas, the mastermind behind beloved characters like Shikari Shambhu and Supandi from Tinkle, shared heartfelt moments with attendees. He recounted a touching encounter where a newly married couple requested an autograph on a Tinkle copy for their future child, highlighting the enduring legacy of Indian comics. "Meeting people who grew up with Tinkle and Amar Chitra Katha, and now see their kids enjoying them, is an indescribable feeling," Savio expressed, emphasizing the cross-generational appeal of these stories.

International guest Josh Blaylock, known for reviving the G.I. Joe comic series as G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, made his debut at the Pune event. He expressed surprise at the character's popularity in India, noting, "Bringing G.I. Joe back as a comic series exceeded all expectations. Independent artist Vibha Rao, popularly known as Indian Scribbles, experienced a breakthrough moment at her first Pune Comic Con. "People approached me saying they recognized me from Instagram, which felt surreal. Being acknowledged for your art is every artist's dream," she shared, underscoring the event's role in fostering recognition and community among creators.
