Rajinikanth Reflects on Amitabh Bachchan's Challenging Financial Phase and Remarkable Resilience

In a nostalgic throwback, legendary actor Rajinikanth has opened up about a difficult period in Amitabh Bachchan's life, when the superstar faced severe financial setbacks. While Amitabh Bachchan is now celebrated as one of Indian cinema's biggest icons, there was a time when his circumstances took a drastic turn, testing his resilience and humility.

The Financial Downfall and Property Sales

At the peak of his career, Amitabh Bachchan briefly stepped away from the spotlight and launched his company, Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Limited. Unfortunately, the venture did not succeed, leading to significant financial losses that pushed him into a challenging situation. According to Rajinikanth, Amitabh Bachchan had to sell properties in Mumbai, including his cherished home in Juhu, marking a significant low phase in his life.

Insensitive Reactions from the Film Industry

During this struggling period, Rajinikanth recalled how some members of the film industry reacted insensitively. Instead of offering support, there were instances where people mocked Amitabh Bachchan's downfall. Despite facing criticism and isolation, the actor chose to stay determined, focusing on finding opportunities to rebuild his career rather than reacting to the negativity around him.

The Turning Point: A Humble Request to Yash Chopra

Sharing a powerful anecdote, Rajinikanth described a pivotal moment. "One day, he walked to Yash Chopra's house wearing a monkey cap because he no longer had a driver as he couldn't pay them. He asked Yash for work," Rajinikanth said. He added, "Yash immediately brought a signed cheque and gave him, but Amitji declined, saying he would take it only if he was given work." This humble request led to Amitabh Bachchan's role in the film 'Mohabbatein', directed by Yash Chopra.

The Comeback Phase and Regaining Stature

With 'Mohabbatein', which co-starred Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Amitabh Bachchan began his second innings in Bollywood. Around the same time, he also became the face of the popular television show 'Kaun Banega Crorepati'. These projects re-established him in the industry and brought back his popularity among audiences.

Recalling Amitabh Bachchan's dedication, Rajinikanth said, "He did anything and everything. He did all kinds of ads." He further added, "For three years, despite having many health issues, he worked for 18 hours a day and cleared all his dues." Not only did Amitabh Bachchan recover financially, but he also regained his stature, proving his unwavering resilience and commitment to his craft.

Shared Screen Space in 'Hum'

Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth shared screen space in the 1991 film 'Hum', directed by Mukul S. Anand. The action-drama also starred Govinda and Kimi Katkar in key roles, revolving around three brothers entangled in crime and redemption, showcasing their early collaboration in the industry.
