Ranveer Singh Targeted with Multi-Crore Extortion Demand from Bishnoi Gang
In a disturbing development that has sent shockwaves through the Indian film industry, Bollywood superstar Ranveer Singh has reportedly received a serious extortion threat demanding several crores of rupees. The threat was delivered as a WhatsApp voice note sent from an unidentified phone number directly to the actor's personal secretary. According to reliable police sources, the sender explicitly claimed to be acting on behalf of the notorious Bishnoi gang, which has been linked to multiple high-profile criminal incidents in Mumbai.
Heightened Security Measures Implemented
Immediately following the receipt of the threatening voice message, security around Ranveer Singh's residence was significantly bolstered as a precautionary measure. In a related development, the managing committee of the Beau Monde residential tower in Prabhadevi, where Singh resides with his wife, actress Deepika Padukone, formally approached the Dadar police station regarding unauthorized security arrangements. The society's written communication highlighted that six armed private security guards had been deployed at the celebrity couple's flat without obtaining proper permission from the residential society. Furthermore, the committee noted that a uniformed police official had recently been stationed at the premises alongside the private security personnel.
Widespread Pattern of Threats Against Bollywood Personalities
Police sources have indicated that Ranveer Singh is not an isolated target in this alarming trend. Over the past fifteen days, approximately a dozen prominent Bollywood figures have reportedly received similar threatening calls from individuals identifying themselves as members of the Bishnoi gang. Despite these serious threats, no formal complaints or First Information Reports have been registered by any of the affected celebrities so far. This latest threat emerges while Mumbai's crime branch continues its intensive investigation into the unidentified shooter who fired five rounds outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty's Juhu residence just a fortnight ago.
Escalating Gang Activity Creates Industry-Wide Anxiety
The growing menace posed by the Bishnoi gang has created palpable fear within Mumbai's film fraternity, evoking unsettling memories of the 1990s and early 2000s when underworld influence, organized shootouts, and extortion threats were rampant. This recent surge in criminal activity follows several high-profile incidents linked to the gang, including the firing outside Salman Khan's residence, the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddiqui last year, and the recent attack on Rohit Shetty's home. Investigators have revealed that soon after the Shetty shooting incident, multiple Bollywood personalities began receiving extortion calls, with most choosing to block unknown numbers or avoid answering unfamiliar calls altogether.
Investigation and Preventive Measures
In response to these threats, many celebrities have adopted defensive measures. Ranveer Singh's secretary is believed to have proactively blocked unknown callers, which may have prompted the extortionist to resort to sending a voice note directly to the assistant's WhatsApp account. Meanwhile, law enforcement authorities have mobilized significant resources to address these security concerns. At least nine specialized teams from the crime branch are currently stationed in Lucknow and surrounding towns in Uttar Pradesh, working diligently to track down and apprehend the shooter involved in the Rohit Shetty firing case. A senior police official confirmed that the shooter has been positively identified and digitally traced to Lucknow, with intensive efforts underway to ensure his prompt arrest.
The combination of targeted threats against high-profile individuals and the ongoing investigation into recent violent incidents has created a tense atmosphere in Mumbai's entertainment industry, with security concerns becoming a paramount priority for celebrities and law enforcement agencies alike.
