Rebel Wilson's Legal Battle Over 'The Deb' Widens Amid PR Scandal Claims
The legal dispute surrounding Rebel Wilson's upcoming film 'The Deb' has intensified significantly, with the actor now confronting four separate lawsuits tied to the project. This escalation comes as Wilson has publicly responded to the fallout, including allegations linked to a crisis PR team. According to reports from Page Six, the conflict deepened after leaked audio surfaced, raising serious questions about an alleged smear effort connected to Wilson's representatives.
Allegations and Counter-Lawsuits in the 'The Deb' Dispute
The origins of this legal battle trace back to 2024, when Wilson made a series of accusations against the film's producers, including songwriter Amanda Ghost. Wilson alleged "inappropriate behavior towards the lead" actress, Charlotte MacInnes, along with claims of "embezzling funds from the film's budget" and "retaliatory behavior" after she raised concerns. She also accused the producers of attempting to block the film's premiere at the Toronto Film Festival.
In response, the producers filed a defamation lawsuit against Wilson in Los Angeles. Wilson countered with her own lawsuit, expanding on her initial allegations to include sexual harassment and embezzlement claims. MacInnes publicly denied Wilson's assertion that Ghost had sexually harassed her and subsequently filed a defamation suit against Wilson in Australia. Additionally, AI Film, the production company behind 'The Deb,' initiated a commercial case in Australia against Wilson's Camp Sugar production company.
Leaked Audio and Public Statements Add New Layers to the Controversy
A new twist emerged when The Hollywood Reporter published leaked audio that allegedly captured members of Wilson's crisis PR team discussing the creation of fake websites. These sites were purportedly designed to portray Ghost as a sex-trafficking madame. In the recording, one individual is heard stating, "We can't just do, like, oh, she's a bitch, she sucks. It's, like, it's got to be really, really heavy and connected to something that heavy." Wilson has firmly denied any knowledge of these websites.
Wilson addressed the growing controversy through a series of Instagram Stories, expressing her frustration with the situation. She wrote, "I was going to wait to take the stand, but the absolute bombardment on me as a person, via heavily paid crisis PR firms recently has taken its toll and it's impossible to say nothing." She added, "Everyone, who knows me, knows I a true Rebel. I say it how it is." In another post, she emphasized, "I am PRETTY STRONG, and when push comes to shove, I'm going to get on the stand and tell it like it is." Representatives for all parties involved have declined to comment on the ongoing legal matters.
Wilson has also taken to social media to accuse billionaire Sir Len Blavatnik of funding both the film and the legal actions against her, further complicating the narrative. The case remains ongoing, with no final verdict reached, and all allegations are yet to be proven in court.
