Bollywood power couple Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan stepped out on Thursday afternoon to cast their votes in Mumbai. The city held polls for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections in 2026.

Stars Urge Citizens to Vote

Saif and Kareena greeted photographers stationed outside a polling booth. They joined a growing list of celebrities participating in the democratic process.

Aamir Khan Emphasizes Voting Importance

Earlier in the day, actor Aamir Khan arrived at a polling booth to cast his vote. After voting, he spoke to reporters about the significance of participating in elections.

"I would tell everyone to definitely cast their precious votes," Aamir said. "BMC has made very good arrangements here."

He praised the election authorities for ensuring smooth voting procedures at the booth.

Family Members Also Participate

Aamir Khan's ex-wife Reena Dutta and their children Junaid Khan and Ira Khan visited their respective polling booths. They too fulfilled their civic duty.

After casting his vote, Junaid Khan told the press, "Please come and vote, it is very important and everyone should come and vote."

Maharashtra Municipal Elections Underway

Polling is taking place across 29 municipal corporations in Maharashtra. Major cities participating include:

  • Mumbai
  • Pune
  • Nagpur
  • Thane
  • Navi Mumbai
  • Nashik
  • Pimpri-Chinchwad

Voter Statistics and Arrangements

The State Election Commission reports approximately 3.48 crore eligible voters. A total of 15,908 candidates are contesting for 2,869 seats across 893 wards.

Authorities have established 39,092 polling centres to facilitate smooth voting. Polling began at 7:30 am and will continue until 5:30 pm.

Counting of votes will occur on January 16. The election process marks a significant democratic exercise in Maharashtra's urban local bodies.
