Shekhar Kapur Applauds Dhurandhar on OTT After Missing Theatrical Run
After creating a significant impact at the box office, the highly anticipated film Dhurandhar has now made its way to OTT platforms. This release has allowed numerous viewers who missed the theatrical experience to finally watch the Aditya Dhar directorial and share their opinions online.
Shekhar Kapur's Enthusiastic Review on Social Media
Renowned filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, celebrated for directing classics like Mr India, recently took to social media to express his thoughts on the film. On Monday, he posted a detailed review on X, formerly known as Twitter, where he commended the director and the entire team.
In his post, Shekhar wrote, "Finally saw #Dhurandhar on Netflix. Terrific storytelling and very high level of performances even from minor roles. Director #AdityaDhar deserves all the praise he’s getting. Congratulations producer #jyotideshpande and looking forward to #Dhurandhar2."
He specifically highlighted the film's compelling narrative and the outstanding acting across all roles, while also showing excitement for the upcoming sequel.
Fan Interactions and Insights on Storytelling
Responding to a fan who noted the rarity of a first installment feeling complete while setting up a sequel, Shekhar agreed with the observation. The fan had commented, "It is rare for a 'Part 1' to stand on its own while setting up a 'Part 2.' Usually, they feel incomplete. Dhurandhar managed to deliver a full meal while promising a banquet. The scale of Indian storytelling just leveled up."
Shekhar simply replied, "Agree," acknowledging the film's achievement in balancing a self-contained story with future potential.
Addressing Censorship Concerns and Theatrical Availability
When another user raised concerns about whether the Netflix version felt diluted due to censorship, Shekhar clarified, "It did not feel censored except for swear words .. but it was obvious what the characters were saying." This reassured fans about the integrity of the OTT release.
Several followers also questioned why Shekhar had missed watching Dhurandhar during its theatrical run in December. He explained, "I wish I had .. but it was not available in theatres where I am." Further elaborating, he added, "I am in Dubai where it did not release."
When asked if he would watch Dhurandhar 2 on the big screen, he responded, "If it releases where I am," indicating his willingness to experience the sequel in theatres if possible.
Background on Dhurandhar's Release and Success
For context, Dhurandhar faced a ban in six Gulf nations, including Bahrain, Oman, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE, which prevented its theatrical release in these regions. Despite this setback, the film achieved remarkable success, grossing over Rs 1328 crore worldwide.
The film features an ensemble cast including Ranveer Singh, Sara Arjun, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, and Rakesh Bedi. Set against a backdrop of international espionage, the story follows an Indian spy infiltrating a Baloch gang in Pakistan's Lyari area, with Ranveer Singh portraying the role of Hamza Ali Mazari, also known as Jaskirat Singh Rangi.
The sequel, Dhurandhar 2, is eagerly awaited and is scheduled to release in theatres on March 19, promising to continue the thrilling narrative.
