Sia Finalizes Child Support Agreement with Estranged Husband Daniel Bernard
Renowned musician Sia and her estranged husband, Daniel Bernard, have officially resolved their child support dispute through a court-approved settlement. According to recent legal filings, the two parties have reached a comprehensive agreement that outlines Sia's financial responsibilities for their young son, Somersault Wonder Bernad.
Monthly Payments and Additional Financial Obligations
As per documents submitted to the Los Angeles County Superior Court on April 6, Sia has committed to paying a substantial monthly child support amount of USD 42,500 to Daniel Bernard. This payment schedule commenced on April 1 and will continue until their son reaches the age of 18.
Beyond the base monthly support, Sia's financial obligations extend to several additional areas of their son's upbringing. She will be responsible for covering private school tuition payments, funding various extracurricular activities, and handling all uninsured healthcare expenses. Furthermore, Sia must maintain comprehensive health insurance coverage for their child throughout his minority.
Long-Term Financial Security Provisions
The court settlement includes significant provisions to ensure the child's financial security in the event of unforeseen circumstances. Sia is legally required to establish either a USD 5 million life insurance policy specifically for their son's benefit or create a trust fund of equivalent value. This safeguard is designed to provide continued support should Sia pass away before Somersault reaches adulthood.
Joint Custody Arrangement Details
The estranged couple maintains joint legal custody of their son, with a detailed parenting schedule that allocates time between both parents. Daniel Bernard has primary responsibility during weekdays and weekends, while holidays are divided according to a specific arrangement:
- Bernard will have parenting time during Father's Day and select days of Hanukkah
- Sia will have their son for Mother's Day, Easter, and Christmas celebrations
Background of the Relationship and Legal Proceedings
Sia and Daniel Bernard entered into marriage in 2022, but their union was short-lived. The couple initiated divorce proceedings in March of last year, with the separation becoming increasingly contentious in subsequent months. Bernard later filed a separate legal action seeking sole custody of their son, alleging that Sia was "an unfit and unreliable parent struggling with substance abuse and addiction."
The recently filed settlement represents a resolution to these custody and support disputes, establishing clear financial and parenting parameters for both parties moving forward. While the legal battles have concluded, the arrangement ensures structured support for the child's upbringing while allowing both parents to maintain involvement in his life according to the court-approved schedule.
